way back MY dr never used the word cancer to me when told results of biopsy
I am curious-I have read here many say "when the Dr said the Cancer word"
My dr told me my test (biopsy) results over the phone (2008) He said "OH, it is not bad but NOT good" YOU have "DCIS"! That was it-I got off the phone and put in DCIS and CANCER POPPED up like i was slapped in the face..that is HOW I found out i had CANCER.
IS this uncommon? normanly I have to make an office appt. for blood results and I was told this over the phone. I KNOW LONG ago-but just reading some posts stirred it up again.
Last month was 2 yrs off Tamoxifin-

There are some doctors who
There are some doctors who consider DCIS a precancer and some who treat it as Stage 0 Cancer.
My medical team consider is cancer. But I did meet a gynocologist who told me I had precancer. I chose not to have her in my team for that reason.
I figure why would oncologist recommend radiation for a precancer? Rads is for cancer. But there are arguments for and against. I choose to consider it cancer based on my doctors' explanation of the mutation of cells from normal to cancerous.
Here is a link to breastcancer.org. They have a wonderful forum devoted to DCIS:

Thanks for the reply and the info...
When I searched (as soon as I hung up from the DR way back-as I TYPED IN DCIS the work CANCER jumped out at me. I had two lumpectomies and radiation and 5 yrs tamoxifin. (plus total hysterectomy due to cancer med) so to me it was CANCER.
I found this site-since I never thought of myself as a survior-I would say I HAD Cancer! So I came here to see if in fact I was a survivor!
