Pain 3 1/2 months after lower left lobectomy
while upright I have virtually no pain 3 1/2 mo following lobectomy of lower left lung and removal of 9 lymph nodes. It was VATs surgery and then about 7 inch incision below left shoulder blade. However, when lying down, I have considerable pain from the surgery. Is this normal? How long before I can expect this pain to go away?

Pain after Lobectomy
Hi, I had a lower left lobectomy 5 years ago and still have occasional pain so feeling some, especially when lying down, after only 3.5 months is probably no big deal at all. There is a lot of scar tissue that might hurt for a year and there was a lot of nerve damage which is what still causes me pain. Now it is mostly when I yawn or take in a deep breath, I don't think that ever gets back to normal; I really can't lay on my left side for more than a few minutes without some pain but it's really minor now. It will get a lot better.

thank you for your reply. I'he tried to be careful but do help care for grandchildren and was a bit fearful that I might have over done it. I'm hoping that this pain is normal. Sometimes I feel it during the day but it is especially painful when I go to bed.
