Casting for Recovery -
I found out a little while ago that I got accepted for the Retreat in Valentine, NE in Oct.!
For those of you who do not know of Casting for Recovery - it is a National Organization for women who are BC survivors. It is a weekend for fellowship and learning about flyfishing and meeting other BC survivors in a safe Retreat setting.

Hi Rague. I too have been accepted to a Casting For Recovery weekend. Mine is in Arizona in October. Very excited to learn to fly fish, use and strenghthen my right arm, and hang with other breast cancer sisters. It's a one time only experience, totally free to the woman.
This is a positive outcome of having this nasty disease. There HAVE to be some, right?

When in Oct are you going? Most Retreats are over a weekend but the one I'm going g to is Mon - Wed, which is fine for me. They are having a weekend one at the same place Oct 9 - 11.
I already flyfish. I learned to tie flies at classes that Cabelas puts on and learned to build my own rods from being in Project Healing Water (a program for Veterans).
When I first heard of CfR about 5 yrs ago, I wanted to go BUT there were no Retreats in SD so I would have had to go to PA for the one Retreat that covered 16 states - not much of a chance of being selected plus the cost to get there. (The cost of the Retreat is free but not transportation.). Logical Hubby asked me which mattered more to going to a Retreat (IF I got accepted) and coming home having learned the basics of fly fishing but not having tackle here to carry on once home OR him getting me an inexpensive fly rod and lessons with the expert at the local Fly Shop? I didn't apply but got my first rod and lessons - don't regret my decision but I am looking forward to this Retreat. There still are no Retreats in SD but I was told that 2 from SD could be accepted for the NE Retreats.

PS - It' going to be at the Prairie Club, Valentine NE which is golf resort with a creek running through it.

The retreat in Arizona is October 16 - 18 at Tonto Creek Camp. I understand it's Catch and Release only so no freshly fried trout that weekend, darn! Glad you got in. I'm sure you will enjoy it! I'm kinda looking forward to the gab sessions that are supposed to be about breast cancer. I have no one to talk to this time around, who has been in the same boat. I did last time, and she was a life saver. So ... we'll see, eh?
