Can anyone share their opinion or personal testimony of eating apricot seeds with cancer?
I have heard good and bad things about eating apricot seeds when you have cancer, as well as, eating as a prevention. I sincerely can't understand how something raw and natural can be detimental to a fight against cancer. Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Cyanide!
Apricot pits/seeds contain cyanide!
'Snakeoil' that dose no good other that lining the pockets of the 'Snake Oil Barkers'.
It is the basis for the scam of years ago - laetril - that cost so many vulnerable ones their lives.
A friend's younger brother was DXd with leukemia at Shands but parents bought into the laetril scam and took him to Mexico for the 'susposed miracle cure' - laetril. By the time they realized that it was just a scam to line the pockets of the unscrupulous and got him back to Shands, all that could be done was keep him comfortable til he passed.

Vitamins
Many natural fruit or grain products have a high concentration of anti-oxidants and vitamins in them. These can be great to prevent cancers but not when you actually have cancer. Not only can vitamins (incl supplements) ruin your chemotherapy treatment, they can also actually feed your cancer and make it grow. So while I was doing treatment, I kept to a very bland diet making sure everything was clean and fresh to avoid food poisoning. After treatment, I was able to slowly go back to my very healthy fruit and vegetable based diet. I still do not take any supplements in pill form just in case. I would not eat apricot seeds if I had an active cancer in my body. It's important to avoid processed foods, sugar and too many animal products. This protects you from heart disease and diabetes as well. But everyone is different, so ask your oncologist what he recommends.

I hardly know where to begin with this subject. As soon as I saw your post I contacted my father who is a physician and who worked for the FDA for many years. His comments were as follows: Laetrile is a "quack remedy" that has been scientifically disproven many times over. He was shocked that it is still being floated as a treatment for cancer. He said the makers of this product made claims which they could not substantiate and that is a part of the reason it has never been approved by the FDA. No double-blind studies using a control group for comparison have ever been published. in addition, due to the chemical make-up of apricot pits, Laetrile has side effects that are like the symptoms of cyanide poisoning.
While I am not a particular fan of alternative/complementary medicine I realize that some are fans. Such therapies can be used in addition to or support traditional medicine but Laetrile is not one of them. Please be careful.

LOL - thanks for that. Sorry - I just found this reply.
But to share the whole story - my friend's sister was given 33% to live after having chemo and radiation for lung cancer. My friend and her sister were having lunch (this year), and a man came to their table that was a pastor, and asked the sister if she had cancer. She said yes, and he said all of his family members had had cancer and that if she would grind up some apricot seeds and eat them in her meals her cancer would go away. Well, I was shocked to say the least, but her sister did so immediately and is now cancer free.
When we found this out about my mom I shared with her immediately, and she started to eat them. After the first chemo tx - the dr. said her lump was softer and smaller. I know this can be due to the chemo obviously, but I truly have a peace about it. Since that time, my mom has been "scared" by oher folks not to do this, and that is fine.
I've given her some research and she said she will pray about it, but at this time has a peace without them. So that's good. I'm just hear to support in whatever decision she makes. It's got to be her decision.
Thanks for your quick replys. You have been a great encouragement to me, and others. Have a great rest of the week.

I' m IBC so different presentation and prognosis. After my first neoadjuvant DD A/C, there was positive results. I did not eat pits full of cyanide. Has her Dr approved eating apricot pits? All sorts of 'things' do effect how well chemo can work.
There are all sorts of 'stories' that are passed around (on line and 'somebody') did - or didn't do with no real documentation/proof. 'Research' - anyone can post any thing on like me and call it 'research/proof' - we all need to realistically esearch the 'research/proof', not just accept because "it's on line" and "I'm Cured by 'whatever'.
It is our choice as to TX (or no TX) individually. 'Snake Oil Salesmen' have been around for centuries and do prey on the vulnerable (and their loved ones). It can be harder on the loved ones than the one doing the fighting.

My tumor was softer and smaller after the first treatment, too. And I've heard other stories of people who were given a low percentage of survival who survived. Without apricot seeds.
