Question about throat constriction treatment

I have a question about the procedure to correct a throat constriction. Can it be done in the ENT 's office or does it require out patient? My husband will see a speech therapist next week and his ENT in a few to see if his swallowing problem is due to a constriction; my mother once had a problem swallowing and her Dr said he could correct her problem in his office.

    Yes and no....

Can they streach it in there office, yes. The main question is why this happened. There can be over 30 reasons and they will have to find out why it is happining. It could be something very simple and clear up due to swelling. Once they know the cause they can treat it. The SPL will teach how to correct the way he is doing it and teach him how to swallow better. The ENT will find the problem causing this and then will come up with a treatment to solve it. I'm no doctor so these are just my thoughts. I had to learn how to swallow again due to having surgery. Hope this has helped.

    throat constriction

I am having the same problem due to what my oncoligist believes is scar tissue from txs. You actually can see a raised area in my throat that he checked and said it didnt look cancerious, so Im being set up for another swollow test. The sad thing is-I was eating almost normal, now I am back to the beginning as far as the nutra bullet. I have to blend everything to liquid and I cant even take a pill without crushing it and mixing it in liquid. Anyone else have to have a scar tissue removal?? Wondering what the process is. I hope its not as bad as the tonsilectomy! Will find out more from the swollow test but right now I am so depressed-1 step forward and 10 steps back. Darn it!!

    Swallowing Difficulties

See if you can get a PET scan to rule out a tumor.  Barium swallows and CT scans might not show it.  I went 18mos being told it was radiation scar tissue - and it wasn't.

On the bright side - I am here, alive, and eating pretty well.

    constriction

Thank you. He lost the ability to eat food before his treatment began and during treatment slowly lost the ability to swallow liquids. Thank God for the feeding tube but we are hoping it is just swelling.

    Scar tissues

I had a complete stricture in my throat due to scar tissues. It was closed for 18 months. I first was given a dilation but they couldn't get through. Later a surgeon said he'd like to try a new procedure where the dilation is done by going through the peg tube site and up through the esophogus. Another surgeon goes downwards and hopefully they meet. A fine wire is used, once the surgeon at the top end sees the probe come through he passes a probe through it with a balloon on the end and dilates. I've had ten so far and my throat is opened 18 mm. At first it was week.y then two weekly now its monthly. It won't go more than 18mm and the on going dilations will just keep it from scarring again. I'd love to know if anybody on this site has had this procedure and what can I swallow. I'd love a cheese sandwich or any sandwich I used to love bread and crave it but I'm scared it will stick in my throat. I'm keeping my weight at present by nutribullet ing fruit smoothies with fresh fruit and ensures. I can manage soup etc. I make a strong sweet coffee with a neutral ensure which is nice. Anything savoury doesn't taste the way I remember I've developed a sweet tooth. I'm very grateful to the surgeons who opened my throat it was a nightmare when I couldn't even burp let alone swallow. I felt like half a person. Now I feel normal and can socialise. I hope your throat gets opened.

    My dad had this procedure

My dad had this done it is called the tread procedure. He went once every three weeks And did it 3x. He also had steroid injection to shrink the swelling. This gave him back the ability to eat.  He has trouble with some meats And still has to chew everything very well before swallowing.  Hthe had this done almost three years ago.  His problem of late is his teeth are falling apart but tomorrow is 4 years from diagnosis and we are so grateful for this. I wish you continued healing and if I can help anymore please let me know.

i let my ent surgeon try in

i let my ent surgeon try in the office one time and made him stop.  i will NEVER try that again.  i do NOT recommend having it done in the office.  good luck.

    God bless you,
