9 years for me
This day, 9 years ago, I was diagnosed with T3,N0,M0 anal cancer.
9 years later, doing amazing with a great attitude and a little man who is turning 10 at Christmas.
I remember seeing a post on occasion when I was first diagnosed of a 'long time' survivor and I hope that I can at least inspire one other person to keep fighting. My long-term side effects are minimal and I no longer have to get checkups unless I am symptomatic.

Hi Gabby!
I am SO happy to see your post and know that you are doing well! 9 years--congratulations! That is just wonderful. You have given me so much inspiration over the years and I want to thank you for that. You are proof that this disease can be beaten and that has always given me lots of hope and encouragement. I don't know what the benchmark is for a "long-term survivor," but I am approaching the 7-year survival mark and am the "old timer" on a couple of sites, including this one. But I happily yield to you and bestow you with that honor! Like you, there are lingering issues, most of which I deal with easily--they have become the norm. My one serious recurring issue, thanks to the radiation, is partial small bowel obstruction. I just had another one 9 days ago. Fortunately, it finally cleared on its own. However, one of these days I may have to face surgery. I guess that will be a small price to pay for still being here!
Your son is keeping you busy, I'm sure! I hope you are still involved with horses and doing whatever you love to do. You have certainly earned that right! Take care and I promise you a year from now when you hit the 10-year mark we will throw one hell of a virtual party for you! Take care, be healthy and happy! Hugs!

GREAT NEWS, Gabby!
I am a little over 2 years post treatment and doing well. I remember not long after I joined this site, I saw your post (probably for 7 yrs) and was amazed, inspired, awed, encouraged knowing that you had beat this disease and life was pretty much normal for you.
Thank you so much for coming back after all these years and letting us all know that there is hope.
I am glad to be able to celebrate your health!

means the world to so many of us! I'm 1 year post treatment and the exams are all good. Still battling the radiation and chemo side effects, but your post gives me hope about being "normal" again one day!

I'm so happy to hear that you both are at 9 years and 7 years! I am at 6 and very grateful. I remember when this site first started and it is so encouraging to hear from "veterans". Wishing you continued NED!

Thank you! And I am so happy to hear that you are past the 6 year mark! Like you, I think it's important for newbies to hear that this disease can be beaten and long-term survival is possible! Whatever we're doing we need to just keep doing it. May you continue to be NED as well, my friend!
