Poop
I've been lurking on this site for years and am so very grateful for all the advice you've shared. I am almost five years post treatment and have an embarrassing question. When I have a bowel movement, they are soft and there is almost always some that doesn't get pushed all the way out. I end up using a huge amount of toilet paper and then clean the rest up with baby wipes. Does anyone else have this experience? Is there anything I can do about it?

I can so relate to what you are saying. That's exactly how I feel. I am 18 months post treatment. I am lucky that I don't go more often than I do, because a trip to the bathroom can be 30 minutes, mostly for clean up. If anyone has advice for us, I'd surely appreciate it!

This is not a pitch for activia but it really does help me with less gas and consistant eliminating and not so messy. I completed tx 6-31-09
One more issue is my perinium was damaged during radiation and I notice if you push on that it will help with eliminating as sometimes there is not enough pressure to eliminate with just the anal sphincter alone.

me too
I sometimes have the same problem. I think it's not being able to really clean the scarred area. I do the same thing with t.p and baby wipes. I also wear a pantiliner in case I've missed some. Much better to catch it there than to leave skid marks in my underwear. What we go through!

I have purchased a portable
I have purchased a portable bidet...a plastic, sqeezable bottle with a long handle spigot to spray myself clean. I don't know if that would help, but it seems to have helped me -- Almost like hopping in the shower. I also use dimethicone-based wipes because they make any irritation feel better. After that dries a bit I apply Aquafur.

I had the same problem (I worried about my septic tank, I was using so much TP!) My oncologist suggested taking organic psyllium husks in water daily and it worked.
Can you tell me how much of the psyllium husks you use? I have heard this before, and I've been afraid to try for fear of backing myself up, pain, etc. But I would like to spend less time cleaning up too!
Thanks.

I suppose everyone has their own way of doing this. I've been using psyllium since my surgeon recommended it prior to the beginning of my treatment three years ago. I take two tablespoons every morning in eight ounces of water and I drink many glasses of water throughout the day. Definitely start with a small amount like one teaspoon just to see how it affects you. I think it's worth trying.
