Pathology report
Okay kidney angels,
have received pathology report from last week surgery. Apparently as good as I was hoping. 3cm Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma t3a. Negative margins.
Can anyone tell me what exactly this means. Doctor says need to keep close eye, scans every 3 months. Monitor closely. I'm a bit discouraged because Of staging.

Negative margins are important. It's good that yours was negative.

Chromophobe not that aggressive
Nana,
Generally, chromophobe is a less aggressive type of tumor so that's a good thing. Being Stage 3 isn't the greatest thing, true, but it is rather small. It was probably bad luck as to where the tumor was located. I don't think it's the end of the world. Remember, it's a good thing to have quick follow-ups; once you get a few of them under your belt you'll feel better.

Glad your doc is staying on top of things
My husband is also Stage T3A Chromophobe. He goes every 6 months for follow up. You did have a small tumor, but location is also key to staging as well which is why you were T3.
As pointed out, chromophobe is refered to as an "indolent" cancer. I have yet to get definitive resources to explain exactly what this means and under what circumstances is the cancer "indolent" or "better."
You should focus on recovering and being cancer free, get back to being busy living. Ask a lot of questions of your doctor, keep informed, but all in all, not bad news. Lots of us here still trucking, including my husband.

would make it easier to answer your question. Theres other independent prognostic features than just stage and type.

My oncologist said indolent means it's very slow growing. Which is a good thing.

Slow growing, but what about after it's already grown?APny said:My oncologist said indolent

Yes, I get that part about indolent. I guess I just didnt' know how much that matters after you've had a 7 inch stage 3 tumor removed?? Indolent, but then what?
