How often do you get your port flushed after chemo treatments are finished?

I am 6 weeks past my last flush and the nurse said I can wait up to 8 weeks to have it flushed again. Does that sound right?

I had made an appoitment to have the Oncolagy chemo nurse flush it today but when I got there she had already left early because the secretary forgot to tell her I was coming in at 3:00 pm. So they reschuled for next Tuesday.

When I was in remission i wqs getting it flushed about every 6-8 weeks.  The lab tech told me that he had seen people gp up to 3 months and every thing was fine.  The first time around I was so sure i was home free and so was the old oncologist , so I had it removed.  Six months later i had to have a new one put in.  Because of scar tissue it was more difficulty and still sits lopsided.  Dont' worry about how often you get it flushed.  it will bw ok.   Lou Ann

They schedule me every 6 wks but I've gone 3 months, which I shouldn't of.  You are fine every 6-8 weeks.  After my treatments, I wanted it out, but oncologist said no.  Sure enough, about a year later I was back in chemo and glad I had listened to my doctor.  Not to be negative, but don't be in a hurry to have it taken out.

    Port Flush

After my last chemo in December, 2011, I never had my port flushed again.  After my second year check-up I had it removed and I never had any problems with it except for the almost constant ache in my shoulder.
