Achy discomfort after my first Brachytherapy. Normal?
I have this achy ness in my vaginal area since my first brachytherapy which was 4 days ago. It's not bad but very uncomfortable. I called the doctor. She said everyone is different, some feel nothing, some feel a little and some feel more. But she said you have to have these treatments.
I wanted to know if with every treatment the uncomfortable turns into more pain. When I asked her she said, it shouldn't but again, everyone is different. This worries me because she said I have to have a total of 5 treatments.
Has anyone here have any experience with this deep ache after brachytherapy? And does it get worse after each treatment?
Also, what do you do or take to stop or lessen the pain?
I asked her if it could be a urinary infection. She said she didn't know but would order me a antibiotic if I felt I needed it.
I told her I don't like to take antibiotics unless I know for sure it is an infection.
So she said she'll have the nurse take a urine sample to have it cultured tomorrow when I go in for my 2nd treatment.
I am not looking forward to having that thing put up in me feeling this discomfort I am experiencing already.

discomfort
I am sorry you are feeling this way from your first treatment. My first was the worst for me. Urinating was awful. After the first one they told me to use cranberry juice for the next time and keep driinkging and that helped. i didn't find it got worse, but got brtter as my body must have gotten used to it. I am hoping that your treatments will follow the same pattern.

cystitis
I got cystitis from my internal radiation treatments. You'll want to get this stuff: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/uristat-pain-relief-tablets/ID=prod6144543-product
It's an over the counter med that helps take that burning/urgency away. Cystitis feels like a UTI, but it's not. You can buy this at any drug store.

It came back that I did so she put me on a antibiotic for 2 weeks.
I have been on it for 9 days and I am still in pain. Burning when I urinate, sharp and achy pain all in my vaginal area. Now I have stomach and loose bowel problems, I think from the antibiotic, along with the pain.
I went to my urologist to make sure I was on the right antibiotic and he said yes. He also said the pain I am experiencing sounds like it's coming from the internal radiation and not a bladder infection type of pain even though I do have a infection.
I finished the 5th radiation treatment on Monday, yesterday. And I feel lousy
When I told my radiologist what the urologist said about the pain, she just waved her hand away and said, that's what they all say.
I don't even know what she means by that.
I'm just glad the treatments are over. Now I just hope my body starts to heal..from everything.
