OT - Tropical Storm Ana AND Winter Storm Venus
Yup - Tropical Storm Ana is hitting the Carolinas at the same time Winter Storm Venus is aiming at the Northern Plains while lots of nasty thunderstorms and tornadoes are ravaging such a large area. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who are dealing with all of this unseasonable and nasty weather and it's over Mother's Day weekend.
We are in the path for WS Venus and will be under Blizzard Warning at 6 tonight til 6 tomorrow night. Oh well - that's just part of living in So. Dak. My panty always has plenty of food, have a kero heater, lots of kero lamps, my old gas stove does not require electricity for the burners to work, we also have all our camping gear so we're set.
Again - my thought and prayers to all being impacted negatively.

Well, the Blizzard wasn't that bad for us. Only got between a ft to a foot and a half depending on exact location, only down to 28F and gusts only to 45 mph. They didn't even close I-90 though did suspend Winter Road Maintenance on Sat. night and advise No Travel. Of course, some 'idjots' went out anyway. Sandy only got 2 hrs sleep Sat night as he kept getting calls to winch those who put their vehicles in ditches. One even succeeded in getting her car stuck in a snow drift in one lane of I-90. Most of the area that WS Venus caused were only Winter Storm Warnings but a realitively small area (we live in it) was a Blizzard Warning. Now they are saying expecting minor stream flooding later this week.
Unfortunately, Delmont, a small (pop. approx. 250) town southeastern So Dak, was all but destroyed by a tornado. Crazy weather - blizzard on one side of the state and severe thunderstorms/tornados on the other side.

Horses are fine! In the NOAA Blizzard Warning bulletin at the bottom it added that new calves and lambs would be at a danger for hypothermia - duh - but so far I haven't heard of any lost calves as most were already a month or 2 old. Also the temps were not brutal - lows in mid/upper 20's and winds not horrible. I haven't heard of any foals lost either. But I don't know everybody. Lambs, I don't know about as I don't know any that raise them.
Such insane weather! Prayers and thoughts for all who have suffered so much!
