Stupid Question

Has anyone heard of anal cancer metastasizing to the muscles?  I have stage iv with mets to liver and I now have an egg sized lump at the back of my calf, right on the muscle.  I'm going for an ultrasound tomorrow and my onc says he doesn't think its cancer, but then I've heard that one before...

    I'm sorry, Cazz ---

--- that you have this worry and pain. There are no stupid questions, especially once you've been bitten by cancer and everything is worrisome! However, there are stupid answers and this will have to be one of those. Given the place, my first thought would be a thrombosis, but I'm sure your doctor has you covered. Please be sure to check back in after the ultrasound results come through to fill us in.

Meanwhile, it's easy for me to say, I know, but try not to worry until you know that you have sometime worrisome. Fingers crossed for you!

I would have to agree with Ouch, as this sounds more like a possible blood clot, which as you know, can be serious.  I'm glad you are getting it checked out.  The calves are prime spots for blood clots and the US should be able to rule that in or out.  If it is a blood clot, hopefully, medication will resolve it.  Please keep us posted.

    Not a blood clot

But thanks for the encouragement.  I just heard from my oncologist that the ultra sound was inconclusive, but they are ruling out a clot or a cyst.  He is going to schedule me for surgery next week to have it removed and biopsied.  I am not looking forward to that, as its the size of an egg and feels firmly embedded in the muscle.  Even if it should turn out to be benign I think the surgery itself is going to crimp my biking and walking for a while.  The only ray of good news is that my doc thought that even if it is a met, it shouldn't rule me out for the clinical trials I'm trying to get into.

Boy, its always something.  Does the bad news ever stop coming, or does that only happen when you're dead?  Sorry, I'm being a drama queen, but I am getting tired of having one bad thing after another happen.

I'm sorry you are having to undergo surgery for removal of this knot in your calf and I certainly hope it turns out to be something benign.  Please let us know how it goes.  I wish you all the best.

No need to be sorry that you feel like a drama queen when I have been acting like a drama emperess!
