Just got home from the Gyno...scared!!!
I just got back from the gyno after years of symptoms including abnormal heavy watery bleeding, cramps, excessive discharge, pain, etc. I had a negative pap in September and also HPV negative, but i had a "hemorrhage" I had a transvaginal US in mid-november which didn't show anything but a few small fibroids. My main concern was endometrial cells found on my pap.
The obgyn today told me that it is normal to have endometrial cells if you are on your last days of your period during the pap (which i was). He told me I needed a uterine biopsy today and I agreed. During his exam, he told me "I found the reason for your endometrial cells....you have a polyp that has come into your cervix..."
I immediately freaked out thinking they would not find any masses. I don't know if it means I have a cervical or uterine polyp. The US didn't show anything. It looked to be the size of a marble, which he put in a container to send to the lab. My head is spinning. I don't know what this means. I"m 41 and have symptoms for years.
Also, is a polyp considered a "mass" in terms of UC?

polyp
i am so sorry you are going through this. i can tell you while i currently have recently gone through a diagnosis of uterine cancer, i too about your age had a polyp about the same place that was removed in the office of which turned out fine. i believe it is standard procedure to get it tested.. i don't believe a polyp is considered a mass. did they say how long it would take the lab? while some polyps are cancerous I have been under the understanding that the majoriy aren't. there are a few of us here on the board that might have had cancer in our polyps but my dr shared that was not the norm.
so my fingers are crossed that your polyp is just that and they send it as normal course to get tested and like mine at your age was fine.
keep us posted when you get your results back

Polyp
I had cervical polyps 6 times over many, many years, all of which were benign, which IS the norm for them. I also had a benign endometrial polyp at the age of 51. At the age of 61, I was found to have a cancerous endometrial one (uterine papillary serous carcinoma).
I don't know if yours is a cervical one or not, the way you describe it. I would tend to think it isn't. I don't think my cervical ones were as big as you describe yours to be. Mine were basically just torn off and I was okay for a year or two, then they came back. I had a little bleeding each time they came back, which was my clue to go get them removed again. I agree that I don't think these are normally considered masses, but I suppose if they grow large enough, they could be. My cancerous one in the uterus was large.
Not to scare you, but your symptoms do sound suspicious for cancer. I knew the results of my biopsy in just a few days, so I hope you do, too. Do you happen to notice an odor with the discharge? I had heavy periods all my life. I always thought my uterus would probably be what killed me, as my cramps were unbearable a lot of the time. But I got rid of it and I'm much better off without it.
Whatever happens, you'll find plenty of support on this site. It's good that something is finally being done about your symptoms. If you do turn out to have cancer, don't assume the worst will happen. I had stage IVb of a very aggressive cancer, and I'm still alive just a few months short of five years after my surgery. I had a scare for a few months last year because of a mass that was found on a CT scan, but my doctor now thinks the mass I have isn't cancer. It could just be a fluid collection from having my lymph nodes removed.
Let us all know the results of your biopsy, and I hope you learn that it's benign.

Thank you both for
Thank you both for responding. I"m really tired of all of this. I had spent the last year dealing with a breast lump issue with biopsies, mammograms, etc. and it seems like all of my girl parts are causing me so many problems and so much anxiety.
And i'm sorry both of you have to deal with this.

Hello needadvice
Your symptoms dosen't seem right, but just do your best to keep calm and wait for the results. We were all there just like you and we all know exactly how you are feeling unfortunately, there is nothing you can do and at the moment worrying will not help anything (i know easy for me to say).
Just this week I had to see my doc because I spotted after five years. I almost fainted. But I prayed and I begged God to give me wisdom to deal with what ever the situation turns out to be. If it's good then I will continue to be a better person and appreciate life more, if it's not good then I will do my utmost best to deal with it the best I can. Unfortunately, there are situations we cannot change, but we can make changes to better accept the challenges that we face in life. It's all part of life and some time or the other we have to face this horrible life changing situations. Amazingly, we endure and take one step at a time because we have no choice. Maya Angelo said in one of her poems "It dosen't matter how bad it seems, life does go on and it does get better tomorrow". I wish you all the best and please come back and let us know how you are doing. You will be amazed how well you are going to cope, good news or bad news. I do hope it's good news. PLEASE FEEL THIS BIG HUG I AM SENDING TO COMFORT YOU !!!!!

Thanks, Nempark. Yes, this is very scary. I hope the docs are on top of everything for you. I hope you have good anxiety meds!
At first i didn't know which gyno cancer the nurse was looking for...cervical, uterine, ovarian, etc. My symptoms aren't exact for one type. After researching a lot in the past few months, it seems that so much progress is being made with cervical and ovarian cancers, but uterine seems to be on the back burner for many researchers (i could be wrong but that is what it seems). This is surprising because there are more cases of uterine cancer.
i've read so many posts from this site in the last few days. I've learned a lot, but some things I wish i didn't know. Apparently, when you have a cancerous uterine polyp, it's likely to be serous papillary or another aggressive type? I've waited since September for this appt. Hopefully it wasn't too long

I had a pap in September and it took more than 2 weeks to get the results because the nurse at the clinic had a family emergency. The office wouldn't tell me anything until I begged them to. They finally told me everything was fine with the pap but i felt like somehing wasn't. I was right. When the nurse got back she told me I have endometrial cells on my pap and wanted to refer me to a gyno. I was referred to an obgyn and they had a month wait for new patients. At the last minute, they canceled my appt because they had an emergency surgery. The was in Oct. In the meantime, I had a kidney stone in November and went to urgent care and told them my bleeding concerns so they ordered the ultrasound and transvaginal US. I tried to make another appointment but they were so booked because of days closed for the holidays. i made a new appt in December waited another month where they canceled on me again. I told them my situation but couldn't get past the receptionist (she didn't care). Well i finally got an appt yesterday at 8:40 in the morning and my sister went with me. They tried to cancel on me again because the doctor was on call and down the street delivering a baby. I was PO!!!! They told me i coulld reschedule but i said no i would wait. I also told them I did not want to be rushed through the appt. The doc came in at almost 11 in the morning.
