Cancer and Depression
Does anyone else struggle with depression? I seem to wake up everyday and go to bed every night depressed, anxious and sad. I just don't know how to shake this. Anyone been thru this? What did/do you do? Any suggestions will be appreciated! Kathy

Hang in there!
HiHang in there!
Hi Kathy:
Sorry you are feeling depressed. But if you read these posts from these wonderful women here you will find out that you are not alone. We all go through periods of depression, along with anger, sorrow, etc. Don't let it get to you. When I first was diagnosed, I was scared and I even screamed into a pillow (which kinda helped). Right now you are probably feeling alone in your struggle. Once you realize there are so many facing the same thing as you, your depression may go away. However, if you find that you just can't shake the depression, you may want to see your PCP until you get ahold of it.
Please know I am thinking of you.
My best to you.

Hi, Kathy
You're right - I do feel so alone and scared. I've been dealing with this for a while and I thought it would get better but it just hasn't. One thing that's hard is that my daughter and friends, after a year of this, pretty much take it as the status quo (which it really is, after all) and for them life goes on as usual. Meanwhile for me, there are tests, labs, chemo, doc visits, you name it. Everything is affected - went to the dentist today and he was reluctant to treat me because of my history. It all worked out but my nearest just don't seem to get how it takes over your life with just the "logistics", you know. And feeling scared - screaming into a pillow right now sounds very appealing, lol! I've been making myself get up and do things around the house - little bits of housework here and there. A friend told me her mom does "commercial cleaning" - everytime there's a commercial on tv she gets up and does a little bit of housework. Sounds like a good idea, huh? I am taking antidepressants, and have for many years. I think interacting more with the women on this site will help me more than anything as you have suggested and I will work on being more active here. Who knows maybe I can help someone else. I think after the first of the year I am going to try to do some volunteer work - our Humane Society is a no kill shelter, so that would make me happy to be around all those sweet loving little critters. So there, you've helped me work out a plan. Thank you, and talk to you soon. Kathy
