Pathology results
Hi all, I'm back from my urologist appointment 5 week post up. He gave the Path results. Clear cell Stage Pt3a grade 2 renal vein involvement, clear margins
He thinks he "got it all" and told I have 85% chances of the cancer not coming back. I take this as a good news. I will have follow up every 6 months for the next 5 years.
Do you think 85% is realistic for a stage pt3a?
Thanks again
Dave

Hi Dave,
My stage was theHi Dave,
My stage was the same, but no renal vein involvement. My uro-oncologist said I had a 30-40% chance of it returning. At 3 months I had a CT scan and then he told me that I would be checked every 6 months via ultrasound. However the first scan they noticed a lesion on the liver, so they decided to do a CT scan instead of an ultrasound (which I have this Friday). However, having read what everyone else's follow up treatment is, I will be talking to him about having a CT scan instead. Like you, I live in Canada, so I am not clear as to what the standard is or whether I can even have the treatment plan changed.
Take care.

Dave,
Given the fact that your tumor was 9.5 cm, 85% sounds good to me. I have seen delayed recurrance on this board for tumors the size of yours, so you may want to question whether 5 years of scans is enough.

October 5, 2012. pt3A Grade 3 renal vein and sinus invasion. 40% ? Sloan bigwig said 50% Don't know but I am still here.
Stay away from the Margaruite flavored barium dye at the scans, and vanilla flavor goes well with valium. We are all here with our families! No matter how much you think about it, life has changed.
