recurrant cervical cancer

Hello all wanted to post an update from the gyn onc visit yesterday.  My 30yo daughter (stage 3b diagnosed 3/4/14) was told two of her illiac lymph nodes has doubled in size over 4 weeks.  They are scheduling a full body PET (to be sure) and a port placement then will be starting cisplatin/carba-something.  they were going to add avastin to that but her blood pressure has been high last few weeks and they want to get that under control with medication before adding the avastin.  staying positive!  Hope you all have a great day!

She has not seen an internist

She has not seen an internist for her BP ... not that he/she would absolutely know why the high BP.  She had high BP at the end of her last pregnancy 6 years ago but hasn't had a problem since.  It was low/normal during initial treatment.  Onc gyn prescribed amlodypine for it but really wants her to go see an internal med doc about it.  He just knew that she couldn't get in to see this type of doctor for 3 mos.  (She has no insurance and can only be seen by county hospital doc).  I'm very proud of her.  She is gearing up for the next fight.  She laid in bed and slept most of the time during her initial treatment but the doc says she can't do that this time.  Chemo is tough he said and laying around will only make it worse on her body.  I guess that makes sense to me.  What do y'all think about that statement?

    Well, I can't remember your

Well, I can't remember your daughters initial treatment.  I'm thinking probably weekly Cisplatin with daily radiation.  It is an exhausting regiment I know, and does require a lot of rest.  For recurrence they usually use carbo/taxol or Cisplatin/taxol which is usually given every three weeks.  The first week holds the majority of side effects ( fatigue, bone pain, eat.) but the next two weeks you feel pretty normal and can function in your normal routine.

too much bed rest isn't good for anyone.  Constipation caused by the chemo and all the corresponding meds can be helped by walking and moving.  Some level of activity is required for our general well being, including our psychological well being.  That being said, it is also important to rest during treatment so the body can recover from the onslaught of toxins.

i hope your daughters pet/ct was negative for spread.  Prayers this chemo kicks the cancer to the curb.  Hugs.
