Newly discovered nodules

I had a partial thyroidectomy way back in 1992 at the ripe old age of 28.  I was told it was late stage I/early stage II and probably would never have further issues with it, which is pretty much true, I think.

I had an MRI on the neck and shoulder two weeks ago at my urging since I've been having a LOT of pain that has been driving me nuts.  I am currently battling stage IV recurrent metastatic adrenocarcinoma after having a very large tumor (about 1200 grams) and the left kidney & adrenal gland removed in April, 2013.   Prognosis on the adrenal cancer is not good.

The MRI was useless in trying to figure out the cause of the neck and shoulder pain (possibly caused by one of the mets to the lung, I suppose) but it did find "multiple heterogeneous nodules" in the remaining right half of the thyroid gland.  I have not had an uptake scan done in a few years.  I was advised to have one every 5 years and it's been slightly longer than that since my last one.  According to my endocrinologist, the blood work is normal; that doesn't necessarily mean much since my blood work was normal when I had thyroid follicular adenocarcinoma in '92.

I was wondering if anyone on the board could shed light on whether the heterogeneous nodules are concerning or not.  I'd think a homogenous nodule would be of lesser concern, but who knows.  If it's weird, strange or oddball, it has me on speed dial.

I'll be talking to my oncologist at UAB the end of the month, but was looking for information before then.   Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed.  Blessings to all who are fighting the fight.
