    This is really not new. If your doctor is not already identifying your cancer by cell type once they extract it or get a good sample from a biopsy then you should find a new doctor.

    It actually IS new

    Did you read the article? It's not just about looking the cell types under a microscope by a pathologist, but they are actually looking at genetic markers and classifying the cancer based on the genetic markers.

    I read about this several months ago

    I was fascinated when I first read this.  Evidently researchers/doctors have been pushing for this for a while now. It would change the entire framework of how cancer is organized, etc. 

    I wonder how far we are from this becoming a reality. I would think kidney cancer patients would benefit immensely from this.
