venofer therapy

Has anyone had Venofer with their chemo?  I just completed chemo #5 today, bloodwork showed anemia....and I told the Dr. I slept most of last week, constant fatigue. He thought it was time for some iron, so I will be getting Venofer weekly:  Week 1 cisplatin and Taxol; Weeks 2 & 3 Taxol. Then Week 1 starts the cycle all over again. He offered me prednisone, but I told him I couldn't take it again...he had me on it 4 1/2 years ago, a fairly low dose, but it made me eat UNCONTROLLABLY!( I was working at the time and needed to be alert, but I would pack a bag of food and eat nonstop.)  BTW. previously diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer, 6 months carbo, cisplat, taxol........surgery with debulking....then 6 months cisplat, gemzar, taxol. Can't gain the extra weight since I have several cardiac issues...caratoid arteries clogged unoperable...arteries to my arms 100% clogged (small vessels formed which provide limited circulation)....had a stent to one kidney earlier this year, artery was 90% clogged........high blood pressure...ETC.!!!!!!!

Sorry for so much background, but my husband also got me some low cal protein shakes, which I had one today.  I FEEL GREAT!!! I should be napping and snoozing, but I have been on the phone talking to family.....walking the dogs......I have energy!  Is this an answer for that horrible fatigue?  Anyone doing Venofer as part of treatment?  Does it last? I haven't read of any really bad side effects unless you are allergic to it.  Hoping to hear from anyone getting iron infusion with chemo.....

    Hi Linda

I don't have any experience with Venofer (my iron was okay during chemo) but it appears that it is helping you a lot with your energy level, which is terrific!  Moving around and doing stuff like walking the dog is a good thing too.  It gets the blood flowing, helps keep the intestines moving, and perhaps you burn a few unwanted calories too.  Sending lots of prayers your way that the Venofer continues to work its magic and that your chemo kicks your cancer's butt!

    Venofer

No Venofer here, but it sounds like it's magic for you!  I hope the up-swing in your energy level continues. Judging by your background, you certainly deserve a break (as do we all).

    Cheers,
