updates
Hello everyone,
Well the brother's completed all the tx's. And the peg was pulled today. He's around a month out already. Thrush rears it's ugly head, but the drs. are staying on top of it for him. Now it's healing time. First scan will be in Sept., CT w/contrast. Then a PET/CT 6 mo's out. Wonderful ENT very experienced with his specific dx. SCC HPV + (unknown primary) stage 4.
For me, well pooh. Fighting a bout of pneumonia. Weak as a little lamb. But not hospitalized. Thanking the good lord for small things. Was told again today to get on my Health Care Directives. Looking through the paper work is exhausting in itself.
Had to again put out my onc. appointment, as being sick doesn't mix with a cancer center, and people doing tx's. Will still get in by the 24th. hugs and warm wishes sent to all ! Katie

the uptake on the updates is uplifting
Katie,
Congratulations to your brother, it is a milestone for H&N patients. I will ring my bell for him in the morning.
I wish you the best results from treatments. Good doctors produce good results.
Do you realize it was just about 2 year ago you were setting speed records driving to make appointments?
Best always,
Matt

Yes, it is fantastic news for my brother ! He's still navigating a few of the twists and turns...but life is getting better for him. And thank you my friend for reminding me I've also come a long ways myself. Life is good. Hugs, Katie

Go Brother!!
Sorry that he has to battle thrush.....what a pain in the patoot.....but at least they're keeping up on it, and hopefully as he gets healtheir it will fade into the distant past.
Pneumonia!! Oh honey....like it's not already hard enough to breath. Praying for a quick recovery for you! Why can't a person just make out their own directives.....sign them, get them notorized and be done with it. Don't get why they have to make everything so fricking complicated, unless it's to justify their damn jobs.

I GET IT
Katie, been there many times on my previous drug Taxotere and others over my 4 year journey with the beast. Remember, getting an Advanced Directive, Medical Power of Attorney, Will Etc, does not mean the end is near. My wife and I just experienced this with one of her managers whose Fiancee was diagnosed with a rare and sever form of Leukimia, and passed a week ago last Sundayshe passed all of a sudden in the hospital. He never pushed her for any legal documents, and now he is completely "on the outside looking in" against her parents who are seperated and her "piece of **** dad" is greedy and will now not acknowedge him as he stands to inherit her investments and home here in Austin. Just a fact of life, as I no longer work, and in my wifes best interest, everything, and I mean everything is in her name. Just get through the feeling like crap phase and everything else will fall into place.

ditto Mike
Hi Katie,
Mik's post got me thinking about the directives, wills, etc. The better way to think about getting these "chores" done is they benefit others not you. Knowing the caring and selfless person you are I hope viewing it this way makes it easier as well as makes sense. The more clear you are in writing lessens the burden, hardship, ill will, bad feelings, and many other things when your expressed wishes are on paper. I think it is reasonable to state that clearly stated intentions create far fewer negative consequences than instances where little or nothing is written. Take care
