Update on Skiffin
Hey Tim, Phrannie and everyone else.......
Just heard this morning that John has been admitted back into the hospital. They are doing some tests (scans) to check on a possible stomach leak. That is all I know at this point. Will keep you all posted..
in the meantime, prayers are appreciated by both Shelley and John.

Thank you for the update. Darn, I was hoping that the storm coming in was what was keeping him off of the computer. I hope that they can find out what is causing this slow progress. Prayers and hugs to John and Shelly.

Really sorry to hear that John was readmitted to the hospital. At least he will get round the clock care (I know Shelly gave the BEST care) and maybe get some meds that he couldn't get at home.
Will definitely keep the two of them in my thoughts and prayers.

I think of John and Shelley most everyday and include them in my prayers. Just yesterday, I noticed that there hadn't been a recent post and was hoping recovery was progressing well. Can't wait to hear better news for them.

This "whipple procedure" is really a huge surgery. Sending positive thoughts to John.....glad he has Shelley by his side.

News like this I can do without. Knowing John, his silence here is a pretty good indicator by itself. Thanks for the confirmng update Ingrid.

UPDATE: Shelley said John has a fistula. The docs are hopeful that it will heal on its own. That is all i know for now. I'm assuming since they referred to his stomach as "leaking", that that's where the fistula is, but i'm just guessing. if i hear more, i'll let you know. prayers are needed for our friend's healing.

Hello everyone......
John and Shelley just called and John sounds so much better today. They have been giving him IV fluids, so just being hydrated has helped him feel better. They are going to try to get the fistula to heal up on its own. If not, they would go in and do a bit more stitching... the leak is at the point where the stomach was reconnected to the pancreas after his surgery. Doctors are very optimistic that this will heal on its own.
So, it will take a few days more in the hospital...but Shelley can stay at night and John's mom, Jean is taking care of the pups.
Thank you everyone for the prayers and good mojo..it is working !

Thank you again Ingrid. When we don't hear from a regular (or abi regular) we tend to get nervous. So glad Shelley will be able to stay at the hospital and so glad that John's mom is there to take care of the granddogs, saves Shelley extra running around. Hopefully he will begin to heal on his own and no further surgery. Hugs and prayers. BTW, will the storm effect them, I can't remember which side of Florida they live on.

they live more in the center of FL.....so they are not on either coast or in the path of too many hurricanes.

Thanks I was starting to get worried not hearing anything; will keep both John and Shelley in prayer. Something I found out healing after radiation is not a fast as it use to be, somehow our bodies take a little more time.

Thank You All
All has been pretty much said above..
just in a wait and see mode..
MDs cut all intake by mouth other than ice chips..
everything ng else going in with a PICC line.
Mthe thought if the shut everything off going through the fistula, it should seal itself.
Will keep you you or my buds above informed..
Thank you all

Good to hear from you John. My mom had pacreatitis a few years back. They had to cut off all from mouth and fed her through a pic lime. Took about a week but she came through and is back to normal and very active at 84.

Well you all know me..., laying around for 2 1/2 months being sick after all I (we) have been through is not my idea of fun.
Not much news today.., getting nutrients through the PICC, blood draws and everything else.
They have four MDs including my surgeon monitoring everything, blood, infection, nutrition etc...
I will keep you posted...
Thoughts and and prayers to you and yours
John
