trach tube removed

Last Friday the doctor finally removed the trach tube.I asked how long do I need to keep the gauze covering it he said about week.I have been changing it everyday but the thing is it hasn't closed up like I thought it would.Do you keep the it bandaged or just leave it open now and see if it closes as it is more exposed to air?

i would call the doc and ask

i would call the doc and ask him, also ask him if it should be closed by now.  you want to stay on this and make sure no problems arise.  i'd call him today so you don't have to wait for the weekend.

Seen my radiation doctor

Seen my radiation doctor today and asked him.He said not to worry it will close up but to keep gauze on it until it doesn't leak anymore and it will be fine.

Call the Doctor.....

I would call the doctor and keep it covered. If you still can breath through it you don't want to inhale dust or anything but clean air. Trust me, a fly can ruin your day if inhaled.

That's what I was thinking

That's what I was thinking wmc.My speach specialist told me not to be surprized if I hear some whisleing until it closes.And as you said don't want inhale anything that I shouldn't when we have come this far.

about the trach tube removal. I had one 5 days and 20 days and of all my issues, I have to say I hated the tube the most. Make sure to allow air to get to the would. If you use a bandaid don't do it 24/7 as it traps moisture and delays healing. Think of it as a scab

Am going to start to leave it

Am going to start to leave it open while sleeping and let it heal that way.But think it is closing up because I seem to speak alittle clearer and can eat more then I have been .
