Recovery
Hello all...hope this note finds you all well. My son has completed his treatment [ 3 chemo tratments and 35 rounds of radiation ]. The last radiation treatment was 2 weeks ago. Since his last treatment he has basically been in the hospital due to the fact he is nauseated all the time and throwing up. He has a feeding tube in his stomach which has been there for about two weeks. The first 4 days after treatment and having the tube went fairly well but now he is sick all the time. Also, it appears that he has fluid in his neck now and they are going to do an ultra sound. Has anyone else experienced this after treatment ? How long is this going to last ? He is getting very flustrated and down....any information you's can give me will be greatly appreciated.

sorry
concerned parent,
for many the first few weeks post treatments may be the worst, but it does get better (slowly). The H&N clock moves at a snail’s pace and it is best to adjust and be happy if things get better faster.
For me, I had neck burn during weeks 6, 7 & 8, it was terribly painful, but got better (slowly).
There are a variety of meds for nausea, make sure the doctor gives you choice. Once the nausea is figured out the PEG may work.
Good luck,
Matt

Hello all...my Son had the ultra sound done this morning and it appears that now after treatment he has some lymphnodes that are inflamed. They have said they are just going to keep an eye on them. Has anyone else had this happen after treatment...he had 35 rounds of radiation and just finished 2 weeks ago. Any information is appreciated...this site has been very helpful to me and my family...thank you's all so much !!!

I would have been surprised if they didn't find a whole lot of things inflamed.....he's just been through a daily course of being microwaved. They'll watch them only because they know about them from the ultrasound.....the chances are tho....that by the time he has an after-treatment CT or PET scan, that inflamation will have gone away.

I had lymphadema where the neck lymph nodes weren't draining properly. Had some neck massage therapy and a compression mask and those provided relief. It was 5 weeks post rads/chemo before I turned the corner. Hope it's just a small bump in the road to recovery.
