Introducing Myself/Waiting for the Inevitable
Hi all,
I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I am here not because I have cancer but because I feel like I'm surrounded by it and am waiting for the inevitable. I am in my mid/late 20s but it seems more and more that those around me have cancer of some sort. My Aunt is currently in remission from breast cancer, my mother and I believe both of my sisters have had operations to remove tumors from their ovaries, and recently my godfather died after suddenly being diagnosed essentially with cancer throughout his body. Is this inevitable? I can't helped but constantly think when am I next? What are the symptoms? Am I ignoring them already? Does anyone else feel this way?

Perhaps as one whose life has been touched by this dreaded disease, your thought of inevitability is more likely. Be vigilant, but do not waste energy or spend life's precious moments worrying about something that may never happen. One of the most important mantras we have on this forum is "It's not cancer, til' they say it's cancer".
Luv,
Wolfen

I am still having fun even with my cancer problem.

ovarian cancer
Emily, there are no true "warning" signs that are distinct for ovarian cancer. Most are things women experience monthly, if not daily.
Find a gynecologist you trust. Share your family breast and ovarian cancer history. It is possible you will be referred to an oncological gynecologist - this does not mean you have cancer, only an enhanced risk. There are tests which can be performed to see if you carry the gene that will lead to the type of cancer that is common to breast and ovarian cancer - there is a shared risk in some types but not all but it sounds like you are a candidate to get this test.
You are young and beautiful - I'm sure others here will agree with me you don't need to spend your life worrying about possibilities that may never become realities.
Go to your gynecologist and share your concerns. You will not be the first nor will you be the last to seek counsel on this.
Let us hear from you but don't lurk on these boards in fear - come here to gain knowledge.
