in Breast Cancer #1

Have you had any experience with Liberator Medical Supply?  My Vietnamese friend also has breast cancer, she's not a member here as the language barrier would be intimidating to say the least.  Anyhow, she had her mastectomy almost two years ago and she just got a prescription for a prosthesis.  But that's all she got, nobody told her where to go or how to actually get one.

I Googled up some catalogs and had them sent to her.  Seems like they all want to be paid upfront, except for Liberator, or so they claim on their web page.

She absolutely cannot afford to pay for it upfront.  Her MIL may decide to help pay any deductible, or she may not; depending on her mood at any given moment.

Your thoughts are most welcome!

    With her limited income, I think I would first try Liberator.  They might be more helpful in fitting and insurance.  If she can find an appropriate and well-fitting prosthesis and can't afford it, I would memorize brand, size, etc. and then do a wider search.

    Liberator it is then!  Thank you for the encouragement.  I just really hate to see that she is not be treated as well as she could be and especially by the medical staff.  We both go to the same county hospital and have the same doctor.  Whille I have no problem navigating their unorthodox ways, her not so much.  She has an excellant understanding of English but isn't confident enough to speak it.  Consequently, they tend to talk down to her like she cannot understand anything at all - as if she were a slighty deaf small child.

    You may want to try and see if there are any Mastectomy Boutiques in the area. We have a local one and they actually have a fund for women who can't afford LE sleeves, mastectomy prosthesis and mastectomy bras. You could contact the cancer clinic and ask them if there are any mastectomy shops in the area, or contact the local American Cancer Society?

    She really needs to try several different kinds with different bras to find out what works best for her. Then, if she wants to buy something online, she will know what works for her.

    I hope you can find some shops in the area for her to try on.
