Good news...finally!

Hi guys,

My Oncologist said I do NOT have to start chemo for the chest and cheek tumors.  It is non aggressive( at this time) so we are going with "watch and wait" for now. We will check the tumors every 3 months with a CT scan. My Blood work looked great, so we will also do follow up blood panels every three months. The eye is another story. I will consult with the North Star Radiologist here on Tues and then she will send her recommendation to the Hood River hospital. My Oncologist said it will most likely be a MRI of the head followed with radiation treatment. As of today all of my medical records have been transferred to the Hospital in Hood River and I have been given a new Oncologist there. I see her on May 8th. Radiation will take place in Oregon and I've been given a new radiologist oncologist to take care of me there. So...no chemo for now and I'm all set up in Oregon for my medical care. Wow...I'm feeling so relieved! Now we can make the move and get settled before my radiation treatments start. Life is good! I'll let you know what the radiologist recommends and what that will consist of. Never had radiation before, so this will be uncharted territory for me. Anyways...thats the scoop for now...gonna be a much happier and peaceful weekend than the last 3 weeks! Yeah me!   Sue

Oh I'm so happy for you!  This is good news!  I learned early on with this stuff that the longer we can put between chemo tx the better - so this is truly good news.  The radiation makes sense.  I've never had any experience with that either = I'm sure some of our friends here have and can help you with questions, etc. 

Wow, very cool that you already have a team set up in Oregon and you can move and get settled.  I just think that God is good and he's got you in the palm of his hand.  Great lady with a great attitude.

Hi Donna,

  Yes..you are so right about not doing chemo until absolutely necessary. Right now the cheek and Paratracheal tumors are not presenting any problems, so holding off on chemo is the wise thing to do. The eye needs attention soon, as it progressed fairly fast from onset. I am just thrilled and feel so blessed! God is good...soooo good!

I was hoping we would have good news from you this morning. You are going through a lot of changes in your personal life--even a new medical team. I am so glad you don't have to add chemo to that! 

I guess you won't be getting a radiation tattoo since it will be in your eye, but you might get a cool mask of your face.

A big relief

I am sooooo happy.  It probably felt like an instantaneous big weight lifted off of you.  If you are like me, now is the time you fall apart....but just for a moment.  You had to be so brave for others but also for yourself, and that is a lot of work and stress....now it's gone.  Of course you have the eye thing, but you have new reserves to deal with that.  Also the new insurance change problem is gone.  Thank goodness you can keep your bank account safe.  You and your hubby need to take a couple chairs and a bottle of wine to the river and fish, fish, fish.  It will be a great summer!

Sue,

I'm glad to hear that you don't have to go through chemo now. Make sure you ask your Dr. about proton radiation/therapy. I was reading something about that and it seemed like they mentioned it was the best for eye issues.

Hi Jeff,

 Funny you brought that up because last night I was doing some research on Radiation to the eye for Lymphoma and I read all about Proton therapy. I'll have a good idea what will take place with my eye after I meet with the radiologist on Tuesday. Right now I'm keeping research to a minimum because I'm trying to stay in a good place in my mind to make the big move next weekend. Trying to do one thing at a time, one day at a time. I truely appreciate all the love and support from all of you...it really makes things easier to deal with. I'll be keeping you in my prayers Jeff. Keep us updated on how things are going for you. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Last minute packing for me and visiting with my sweet grandbabies. It's going to be hard leaving them, but they will only be 2 1/2 hours away which isn't that far to visit! Much love...Sue

Hi Liz,

 Yes...I will watch things closely and at the first sign of anything weird or different feeling, I'll report it to my doctor. I think right now the main worry is with the eye and getting radiation started with it. My Oncologist made it perfectly clear that chemo was not "off" the table, just not needed immediately.
