Dry mouth since receving R-CHOP for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
My wife has an extreme case of dry mouth since starting R-CHOP treatment. She has received 6 of 8 treatments. The dry mouth has gotten so severe that there were deep cracks in the surface of her tongue and even in the inside of the cheeks. I am looking for any suggestions on what has worked for anyone else. She has tried hard candies, biotene products, ACT dry mouth products and even some essential oil use too. Nothing seems to work for more than a couple minutes. Any help would be appreciated.

Found a document that might help
Hello ejgowan. I didn't have major problems with my mouth during chemo (R-EPOCH, very similar to your wife's). I did have some minor irritation and an ulcer once on my tongue but I avoided the issue by not eating any acidic foods around/during chemo cycles. I found this document at MD Anderson:

I'm sorry I couldn't be much more help and I hope things improve for you wife.
Hugs and positive thoughts,
Jim

The Mouth
I haven't had any issues with my until recently. It had nothing to do with the regimen...more because of my low platelet count. On the inside of my cheek I had some sort of blood absess (sp?). Took about 3 days and went away. Probably doesn't help but thought I would mention it.

Dry mouth
My mother had RCHOP and w the combination of her diabetic meds she developed sensitivity to foods and toothpaste. She was prescribed a 3 part cocktail to rinse w. I only remember 2 of 3. Antacid, lidocaine and I'll go through her prior med lists over the weekend and tell you the third part. It helped heal the lil lesions and relieved the pain too!

Sore mouth.
Ask your Wifes oncologist for a cocktail product called Magic mouthwash. It is a prescription and mixed by a pharmacist. I have heard it works wonders. Chemotherapy is very hard on the mucous membranes. I was advised to use a baking soda toothpaste with a soft bristle toothbrush and rinse a couple of times a day with a warm water, baking soda and salt mixture. I think it worked as my mouth was very tender but I didn't get any sores. It really is called magic mouthwash and let's hope it is. Good luck, Mary
