Has anyone taken it? I've read all the side effects and was hoping to get some personal feedback on effects and benefits.

Hi Dez,

 I didn't have any problems with my blood counts, kidneys or anemia related problems. I was so fortunate in that area during my chemo treatments. I hope your mother is doing ok. Hopefully other members will have feedback for you. Take care and best wishes for you and your mom. Love...Sue

Welcome to our group.  I am so sorry about your mother but it sounds like she is hanging in there.  This must be very difficult for her especially with all of her other problems.  My husband Bill is the one with lymphoma.  When he was diagnosed his blood counts were very low.  He was given procrit shots to build his blood before he could start his chemo.  I could look it up but at the moment I can't remember how many shots he received but it was a lot.  They were able to build his blood counts high enough without having a transfusion.  He did not have any bad reaction to it at all.  He was given Neulasta the day after every chemo (pretty standard) and he had no reaction to that either.  They warned us about possible neulasta side effects but never about procrit.  I hope that helps, we feel it saved his life at that point in the battle.

Welcome to the group and I'm sorry you and your mother have to be here but you'll find very supportive, caring folks here.

I don't have experience with Procrit but I would share that many say that claritin really helps with bone ache related to neulasta/neuprogen.  I wasn't aware of this during my chemo so I took tylenol and if it was really bad, I took some pain medication leftover from surgery which was okayed by the doctors.  If you consider claritin, you should probably discuss with the doctors first.

Procrit

When I was diagnosed my bone marrow was over 95% lymphoma.   Blood levels will all  critical...hemo was 5.1.   I was having transfusions every 10 to 14 days and started reduced R-CHOP.   After 28 units of blood, I read about Procrit and asked my oncologist about it.    He approved it but because of the risks...I think to your heart...I had to sign   a form,..the doctor had to sign....and the nurse who would give the shot.  I recevied the shot weekly unit my hemo came up to 10.  after that medicare would not pay and the shots are expensive.   Anyhow, I had no reactions or problems and once I started Procrit I never had another transfusion.

Thank you Sue, Becky, Jim and ROF for all your feedback. My mother had her first procrit after her iron yesterday. She isn't experiencing anymore discomfort than usual.  Fingers crossed. I sent a msg to her onc about the Claritin should she develop symptoms. Hopefully this works. She battles w accepting blood transfussions both physically and mentally for faith based reasons. 

She is a fighter, but she says she's tired. She's trying to hold on to meet her grand kids. That's great if she's not suffering while she waits. I'm not married nor dating regularly so I find comfort she plans to be around for these grand kids

I had to sign the approval form for procrit and thank God that I did- it helped bring my blood count to a reasonable level- I really hated getting blood transfusions time and time again so procrit did its job well. I'm 2 years in remission from 4th stage lymphoma-thank God and able to watch my now two granddaughter's - one 3 the other 2 weeks old grow up. Modern medicine is wonderful and care has come a long way. God bless you and family and girl get with it-grandma needs to see those grandbabies - smiles. Hugssssssssss- Steve
