Beer
Suresh,
I cannot recall if you are still in treatment. If you are still on abvd, I would NOT drink ANY alcohol. Several of the drugs involved recommend against alcohol consumption.
If you are at least a few months out of treatment, I do not think it would matter. I now drink beer myself, but never had a drop during treatment.
Several chemos elevate liver enzymes, and that is one of the reasons it is not wise to add alcohol into the mix. Almost all metabolic panels (blood tests used in cancer) report the two most basic of these liver results: ALT (also referred to as 'SGPT'), and AST (also referred to as 'SGOT'). Most likely, your lab results will show these two levels.
Your doc is obviously the person to ask, but if you are out of treatment for some months, my personal understanding is that moderate alcohol is no problem. It has not been for me.
Actually, I have never heard any mention of any form of linkage between alcohol use and lymphoma, although I have had minor liver issues for decades following some massive chest trauma, and I read quite a bit about liver chemistry for that reason. My father was one of five brothers, all of them professional men, and all five died from alcohol-related issues, which is another reason I have read about alcohol consumption over the years.

In the Smokey Mountains region around Asheville and elsewhere microbrewerys are everywhere ! "Legal" moonshine is also very common in the Blue Ridge region today, and we even have a store in my city that sells only regional moonshine. The movie Deliverance was filmed 50 miles from my house, if that gives you any idea....
Aaron: When I win the lottery, I will fly you out to the east coast (and give you a brewery as well).

I am originally from high in the mountains of Northeast TN and still have a home there(90 miles from Asheville near Boone NC). I remember watching my uncles make shine when I was small. The regional variations are amazing. Some is rotgut but some of it I would put up against the finest Russian or Swedish vodka - even compares very favorably to my beloved single malt scotch. I used to go to Scotland once a year to buy scotch - but thats another story. In beer, my brother makes great beer but no so often. Remember moonshine is best when fresh. Throw it out when its about 2-3 months old. Drown those cancer cells, just not while on chemo!

You have to read this with a very southern accent. There were 3 good ol southern boys, Buster, Bubba and Junior. They were out hunting one day when Buster fell causing his gun to go off and kill him. Bubba and Jr. were beside themselves. Jr says to Bubba, "Bubba, what'r we gonna do? Buster is dead and we're gonna have to tell Buster's wife!" Bubba says "Oh don't worry Jr, I'm a compassionate kinda guy, we'll just go to Buster's house and I'll tell her." "Oh that's great Bubba" replies Jr. So they get in their pickup truck and drive to Buster's house. Jr watches as Bubba walks up to the door, Buster's wife opens it and they talk a minute, then Bubba goes inside. About 5 minutes later he comes out with a 12-pack of beer and gets back in the pickup. Jr looks at Bubba and says "Bubba, did you tell Buster's wife that Buster died?" "I sure did" he replies. "Then what'r you doin with that 12-pack of beer?" says Jr. Bubba answers "Well, when she came to the door I said, are you Buster's widow? and she said 'I ain't Buster's widow, I'm Buster's wife!' so I just said....................I'll betcha a 12-pack"
I couldn't resist, Becky

GKH,
I used to ride a truck to near Boone, Black Mountian, Montreat, and other spots in NE NC to do ATM work. God's Country for certain. My recently-deceased friend Gary (prostate cancer) has a daughter living in Big Stone Gap, near the Tn-Va-NC corner. My brother lived ten years in Chattanooga, and I was born below Nashville in Murfreessboro, TN. I guess that is why I was always good on a Fender Telecaster ! On a different day of the week I did a route that went to near the NC/Tennessee line (we went past Hannah's Cherokee), then as far a Bryson CIty, then down into NC Georgia, and then back into the upstate -- it was usually a 17 hour day. But no place is more beautiful. I have driven due north from Bevard, NC into Pisgah National Forest. Within ten minutes you lose all clues that you arer still in civilization. (46,000 acres is officially old-growth).
Deliverance was filmed on the SC-Georgia line, near the NC border, in Oconee County, SC (about 30 miles from Clemson University). It is still an extremely remote wilderness area, with some of the best white-water rafting the the US.
Gotta go...hearing bangoes getting closer....

Thanks for the link. I have not looked at it yet, but will in a minute.
Something about the title of this thread always struck me as odd from day 1; when I see it I thing "Max, Alcohol, and NLPHL walk into a bar...", followed by some hilarious joke .
