Mr NED and Mr Not
Hi Folks,
At 10 months out, my mouth and throat look as pink as Pepto Bismol. Things have totally healed and accounts for my swallow improving. It's still chew, chew, sip, swallow but improved. I'm even up to eating the one pepper dishes at the Thai restaurant Getting close to the 1 year post Tx mark and I'm still NED. Still dealing with side effects but it sure beats the alternative
Unfortunately, what I was thinking is/was stress/scanxiety related chest tightness needs further investigation. I had some chest pain over the last 4 days and the doctors want me to have it checked out. I actually was sent to the ER yesterday but after two hours (JH ER is a freaking ZOO!), I wasn't going to wait any longer and miss my RO appointment. The EKG they did was normal. I had cardiac stents placed in Oct. 2012. I'm hoping it's nothing but better safe than sorry. I see my cardiologist tomorrow. I feel Ok today, just sore like my chest normally feels when it's going to rain. I'll let you know what happens.

positive thoughts
keep the positive thoughts. Whenever I get fearful I always start feeling pains around my neck etc. Then I go to the doctor and all is fine.....oddly the pain leaves once the doctor tells me all is fine. Don't expect the worse until a doctor confirms it.

NED so
HI “T “,
Don’t come here, it has been raining so much my chest hurts.
I am glad you are healing nicely from the rads and chemo and hope all systems get the green light to be OK.
Is the date and location set? Do you want a horde of you H&N friends to crash the festivities?

Sending positive thoughts
and prayers that your body is simply responding to the stress that scanxiety brings with it. I am never endingly amazed at what my body will do at scan time, only to have it all disappear the day after the scan....and it has to be coming from my sub-concious. It's not like I'm sitting around for days thinking of only the scan.

Hi T
Remember your body took one hell of a hit with radiation & Chemo and it sometimes takes a long while for the effects to ware off completely. I don’t remember how many times I got my wife up to take me to the ER because of a bad pain or something, only to find nothing wrong. Sometimes there is something to worry about and other times there is nothing to worry about. Another part of your new normal but will keep you in pray as well.

mark, darn scanxiety gets us
T, darn scanxiety gets us all at times and i hope that's all the pain is, scanxiety. it will probably be chew, chew, sip, chew for quite some time. my last rad tx was 10/22/09 and i still have trouble eating, for me, its chew, chew, chew, chew, chew and then chew...lol. my meal is always cold long before I finish but i've learned to accept that. glad the ekg was normal and you're feeling better. its a good idea to see the cardiologist tomorrow, always better safe than sorry. praying you get a good report from him. be sure to let us know.
How is Marcia doing and have you guys made any plans yet? We're waiting.......
God bless you T,
dj

Glad to see you here
Congrats on the NED and, perhaps as important, good news on the eating. I'm just a couple of months ahead of you and these last two months have been pretty significant improvement in the eating category; so it will get better!
You know your body better than anyone, listen to it and do what has to be done to stay safe.
Good luck buddy, we're pulling for you.

One year out
"T", we're about on the same schedule as my one year DX is 4/1. We're the same on eatting with lots of chewing, more chewing, a sip and then swallow. However, you're ahead of me on spicy as i still can't handle hardly anything spicy and I love the stuff. A few side effects but nothing I can't live with.
I hope all goes well with the cardiologist... I know that can be a concern but hopefully it turns out to be nothing. Lots of positive thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Just a thought...
Hey T....
As you are aware, Kreg also had heart condition (heart attack and triple bypass) prior to cancer dx. He too had experienced some chest pain after tx and what we found was he suffered from pleurisy. He thought he was having another heart attack, but EKG came back ok...further investigation showed possible pleurisy. Not sure if you're familiar with it, so I'll post a link to help define it. Maybe this is nothing you have at all...but thought it may give a little comfort that it doesn't necessarily mean somethings wrong with the heart.
Keep calm my friend.....all will be well.

Hey T !
Hope your appointment is uneventful. We get so busy fighting the dragon, we sometimes forget other issues can hit us also. But you've got this one. You're a strong man, just listen to your body. I'm glad the healing from your tx's and surgery is going so swell. It's really a great feeling. Hugs sent ! Katie

All is Ok
Hi Folks,
Thanks for all the kind wishes. We ended up going to the ER Wednesday night as I was really not feeling well. As expected, they admitted me to run further testing and keep a close eye on me. Had I waited until today to see my cardiologist, I would have just been sent over to the hospital anyway. EKG, bloods and x-ray normal. Had a nuclear stress test today and again, all is good. They believe it's basically "scanxiety" with a dose of acid reflux. I take a Zantac 150 2x day. They equated it to a pellet gun and put me on Omeprazole which they said is like a machine gun in comparison. I was on that through treatment.
I'm home, no worse for the wear albeit exhausted. So all is well. Just another one of the gifts that keep on giving I guess.
Marcia and I are doing well and will probably "elope" in June There are dozens of little wineries that offer elopement packages. Then we'll eventually do a little get together with family later on.
Thanks for the positive vibes and prayers

just checking in
Glad all went well. I haven't been on the site in awhile, so it was nice to see your post. Ruben is experiencing the gift that keeps on giving, and getting a little down. He will be starting hyperbaric treatments on March 10, so maybe he'll feel better after his 30 'dives'. And, you are ahead of him on the spicy foods. He's just starting to eat a little more now, but mouth sores and non-healing tooth extraction is a pain in the touche.
Take care my friend, and God Bless. Congrats on the planning of the elopement.... it will be fun!

T, i'm so glad the docs were proactive and ran the tests. Very happy all came back ok. I've also had a heart attack and have a stint so I know how those pains can scare you. hopefully it will all stay behind you now. glad to hear you're making plans for the wedding, June will be here before you know it.
