Hi All, polyp, horrible symptoms surgery in March
I have been reading some of your posts and I think you are all very strong. I haven't been diagnosed yet so I wasn't going to post but I need someone to talk to. Three years ago, I was told I had a fibroid, the only symptom was heavy bleeding. The bleeding got worse and pain accompanied it. I let it go for three years because they told me it was a fibroid. Some months I felt as if I would pass out. If I had had bleeding between periods I would have gone back but I never once had this. Now I have all sorts of problems including bladder, uterine infection, diarrhea, pain, my uterus feels like a brick. I am sad, simply. I have a d n c and laparascopic lookaround on March 5th. I am 45. They said at transvaginal ultrasound i had a polyp which is 1 cm, uterine lining was 11mm. I went a couple months ago before the ultrasound complaining of inflammatory pain and they said I had strep B. I was given antibiotics which didn't help. I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice about how to stay strong while worrying, or about anything I've written. Thank you and I will let you know what they say after the biopsy. Kelly in PA

Glad you found this site and
Glad you found this site and hopefully you can get some advise and find some peace. I had heavy bleeding and pain. I was post menopause and 55. No fibroid just a tumor in the uterus and a couple of cells in a lymph node. I had a dnc in 2004 and they found several polyps but they were not cancer. Then. 2011 another dnc for heavy bleeding and this time cancer cells in the polyps. Total hysterectomy and chemo. Doing ok 2 1/2 years later. If I knew in 04 that the polyps would come back I would have the hysterectomy then. Uterus is a useless part when you are post menopause and not planning anymore babies and almost 50. Try not to worry much but do become you own advocate for you health. Seek a second opinion if you need too. This site is a good place for information about cancer. Best of luck to you. Trish

Thank you Trish. I don't have a fibroid now. I'll be very surprised if the polyp isn't cancerous. The timing was terrible. Three years ago they said I had a fibroid and basically said bye, so i dealt with the symptoms of what I thought was a fibroid. Some months were a little better than others but basically bled to the point of almost passing out, bright red, etc. I am trying not to kick myself for my ignorance. I'm just a mess. Im glad you are well. How long did you bleed heavily w pain in 2004 before you had the d n c?

In 2004 I was just spotting. I was 48 and had not had a period for almost 12 years. I went through the change and stopped when I was 36. So I knew that something was wrong when I started spotting. In 2011 the dam broke I was bleeding like crazy I definitely knew something was wrong I wss in the dr office within 3days. Had to wait 2weeks for dnc then 1 week for results then 1 more week for total hysterectomy. Keep looking for answers and if one dr does not help go to another one until you get answers. Trish

Polyp, get it out!
I had bleeding last September (I'm old, 72) all of a sudden and I let it go for a month while trying to get up the nerve to do something about it.
Saw an Urologist because I also had trouble urinating and he and my GYN decided to schedule a joint Cysto/D/C to find out what was wrong. GYN did an ultrasound prior and saw what he thought was a "polyp", 5 cm, so therefore the D/C.Had that. Nothing found in my bladder, and the polyp was removed. 5 days later the path report came back with uterine cancer. Pet scan confirmed it. Since it was aggressive they scheduled me for the following week to get a radical hystorectomy performed by DaVinci robot in Tampa. I was told "NO WAITING ALLOWED".
That went well and all was taken out. They found some cells in one ovary and one lymph node even though nothing other than the "former" polyp spot in the uterus had shown on the PET.
Was told that I was lucky since the penetration in the uterine wall was 15 mm and the uterine wall is only 16 mm, so it could have broken through shortly. Now doing chemo sandwich as a percaution and hope this well take care of it.
Therefore, not to put fine a point on it. The sooner you get your "polyp" out the better, as in a hystorectomy, since they are never sure until they get a chance to examine it pathologically.
Don't be scared, just get it taken out asap. If you have a choice, take the DaVinci robot method. Just 5 little 1 inch incisions and you can go home the day after and the healing process if much easier, no large abdominal incisions and pain.
Keeping fingers crossed for you.

All Best. Thanks Ocala Gal, I'm trying to be strong but in pain in uterus/bladder/rectum region. I don't think it looks too good that the odds will be anything other than stage 4. I want a hysterectomy but they are doing a d n c with laparascopic look around on March 5th. I've had this polyp extreme heavy bleeding for three years without knowing what it was til now. The reason I had tolerated the bleeding was because they said i had a fibroid 3 years ago. I do not have a fibroid. Only the polyp was visible, and they could hardly see the right ovary because something was in the way, so there you go...in pain, trying to go on as normal until I have the d n c.

IF you have cancer, it is not obvious to your physicians at this point nor do they view your symptoms as an emergency. "something in the way" of your right ovary does not necessarily mean a malignant tumor. Do you have a copy of your ultrasound report? Does it say that these areas are suspicious/solid/fluid filled or what?
Waiting is the worst part of all this (that and all the worry we put ourelves through while waiting). Is it possible that you can get on the surgery schedule sooner than March 5? Your surgeon should probably know that your pain and bleeding is increasing and this may prompt an earlier surgery date - and then that part will be behind you.
A positive experience - I too had cancer and it was indeed growing in a polyp. It was 3 cm and it didn't show on the ultrasound. But it was endometriod adenocarcinoma which is the most common type of endometrial/uterine cancers and it was Stage 1, grade 1, and surgery was the only treatment I needed.
There's definitely something going on that is causing your symptoms. There are many many reasons women need hysterectomies. It isn't always cancer, but it is always (I hope) because something is not working right.
Good luck and please keep us posted.

Hi Susan, the ultrasound tech said it might have been a loop of bowel. She said bear down to try to get the right ovary on camera and i think that worked, but I get pessimistic w the pain. I will try not to. Thanks for your post. What were your symptoms? I have never spotted in between periods, just have a lot of blood and clotting and right sided pain that I am kicking myself for ignoring so long. Been experiencing bladder, uterine, and bowel (diarrhea) swelling for a few days, guess it's got me down. The reason the d n c was scheduled was because I literally said- if I am going to be put under I'm GOING TO WAKE UP INFERTILE! lol. I'm probably already there but who knows. So getting my tubes tied, though I might need a hysterectomy anyway. Sigh....I've learned a lot in the past three days; my head is swimming. I am so glad you only needed surgery and not other things. Thanks again for responding to me.
