Informal survey
there have been a few on this board who have gotten bad news from their check-ups lately.
my husband is now scheduled for his scans, including another bone scan to rule out any progression from a slight neck rotation issue.
my question is whether those who got news of progression, either recently or earlier, had any hint before the scans. Any symptoms or whether the news was a complete surprise.

No... And with proper follow
No... And with proper follow up, it is not likely to know in advance. By this I mean if caught early the Mets are so small the experts may not be sure they are Mets. Sadly sometimes Mets that small are missed during the scan review...
I always EXPECT good scans.. which helps me stay cool and calm. I EXPECT the drugs to work... Lately I have been rewarded.. nice..! But even when I got the bad news last year.. I just chuckled a bit.. and started the Treatment.. all part of life... still sucks but.. not much we can do but to go on living..!
Good Luck..!!

Following my nephrectomy
Tumors were found in my abdomin near my spine and in my left lung . I knew I was stage four but early on I experienced no symptoms of these tumors existance . About two months after my operation the tumor in my abdomin began causeing increasingly intense pain which got worse almost every day until about a month and a half after I started Nivolumab when decreasing and fast disappearing pain was the first sign I had that the Nivolumab was effective .

Informal Survey!
Hi Sarah,
I was one of those to receive bad news recently, I had no inkling anything was wrong, it came as a total shock. I was actually feeling pretty good, and my energy levels were fine, but it is early days I guess!
I wish your husband all the best with his scan!

thanks for the good wishes, Djinnie. He has been feeling more energy and regaining the weight he lost. He has been feeling discomfort when turning his neck to either side and was due for scans this month anyway. The nurse practitioner who will see him since his onc is away for several weeks ordered the bone scan in an abundance of caution.
he tells me not to worry but, of course, I do; he feels better than before the diagnosis.

Well I went from, "I got it all." to "You've got 20+ tumors, I was afraid of this. We can't help you. You probably have 6 months to live."
"EXCUSE ME?"
Thats when I went searching for someone who could help. 18 months later I heard, "You are bumped from the trial due to new tumor growth." At least they had a back up plan that I already bought in to with the IL-2.
I didn't need a scan to know that my cancer had spread when my ribs started to fracture. I was pretty sure the end was coming.
But as I improved so have the scans...again...until the next time...but just maybe...this time...I'll get to be an old fart like the Iceman.....and Donna. Love you guys.

CT tomorrow
My last scans were in December at which time further mets were discovered (these were in addition to the mets already present). I have never had any symptoms which indicate anything was going on in my body. I really mustn't know my body - didn't notice I had a 20cm tumour on my right kidney back in May 2011 when I was first diagnosed.
Anyway, CT tomorrow with onc appointment in the afternoon for results - this happens to be my birthday so am hoping for a great gift.
all the best to your husband in his upcoming scans.

Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes. I will log in tonight to advise of outcome. Had a lovely early birthday celebration yesterday with family and friends at my house - BBQ lunch for over 20 people. What was I thinking, exhausted today.
Happy belated birthday to you Ron, I believe it was your birthday a few days ago.
