Both Kidneys?
Hi,
Does anyone here have issues in both kidneys?
I was feeling good when I was told the CT scan indicated a 1.6 cm BosniakIII cyst on outside of R kidney that should come off and that a 2.6 cm BosniakII cyst in the middle of my L kidney didn't look worrisome but after processing all of this I'm feeling really concerned about having problems with both kidneys. I am going for a secon opinion on Monday at Sloan Kettering and I think I should have a clearer picture but once again anxiety is setting in.

Bilateral RCC
CMom,
With small tumors than can possibly burn one or more (RFA)
or freeze one or more (cyro)- (the iceman special) or do a partial on one or more or watch and wait on 1 or more.
Luckilly you are a top notch hospital to help you decide on which procedures should be used on your tumors and/or cysts.
It is above my paygrade to suggest which one or a combination of the above is appropriate for you or if the doctors have additional thoughts.

Generally it means that a tiny needle/probe will be inserted to the area of the tumor or met. It will then either be heated (by microwave RF - radio frequencies - this is RFA) or super cooled (this is cyroblation). Either way this intervential procedure is designed to kill the tumor locally.

I really like my surgeon's website:
http://www.kidneycancerinstitute.com/
He covers all the different types of masses, the likelihood of them occuring, growth rates, and different treatment options. I think it's an excellent website for an introduction to kidney masses.

I actually emailedHi Todd,
I actually emailed your doctor. I thought he was still in NY. He told me he moved to CA. I told him who I was going to see in NY and he said he was highly recommended.
Thanks.

RFA kills the cancer cells within the tumor using a probe and inserting it within the tumor and then by emiitting radio waves through the probe whch generates heat thus killing the cancer cells. After the procedure the tumor remains only to become inactive.
