Lymphoma advances ?

Just wondering if anybody has heard of any real advances in Lymphoma treatment. I used to hear things now and then, but lately I have not heard anything. I have heard somewhere that a cure is close, but so is the moon compared to Neptune. That's not meant to be funny. Just making a point as to what is meant by close. I have noticed that most people are holding their own so far. My Chemo was rcvp. Maintenance was the Rituxan like the majority of the people on here. I know some never had the R. Started R maintenance back in 2010 and got it for a year. So far it seems to be doing it's job. John

    Excellent question.  Recently there were a number of articles out there discussing gene therapy.  Here are a couple that I happen to dig up:

    They are also starting clinical trials for B cell lymphomas:

    (Googling words like "Gene therapy", "CD19", "Blood cancer" will get you a ton of articles)

    Obviously, your point about the moon compared to Neptune is a great one.  I'm hedging my bets and guessing that it has just passed Mars on its way to Earth.  Hopefully, it will avoid any asteriods in the asteriod belt (ie: there was some article that questioned the long-term effect of having killer T-cells active in your body...nothing to suggest there is anything wrong with it--just questioning it).

    I had Rituxan with each of my chemo treatments.  I'm not sure it helped.  Rituxan targets the CD20 gene--maybe that's not my problem.  I'm currently on Revlimid which is a thalidomide analogue; not a chemo drug.  Hopefully, the Revlimid will knock the cancer activity down enough for me to head into ASCT.

    That's about all I know right now--or can remember.

    Some more info

    In Nov, Ibrutinib was approved by the FDA for use in relapsed Mantle Cell.  It was evidently rushed through for MCL as it is still in trials for B cell lymphomas and some leukemias. Quite awhile back Bill's onc told us that if he relapsed they may use Thalidamide.  Not sure though if that was gospel and it was over a year ago and now he has a new onc.  We just know the longer he goes without relapse the better.  Becky

    Follicular Lymphoma

    I was diagnosed with Follicular lymphoma in June 2013.  I have just finished my 6th Cycle of CVP and am on clinical trials for GA101.

     

    I will be starting the maintenance programme on 27th of this month every 8 weeks for two years.

     

    I was wondering if you have had any treatment since your maintenance finished?

    TREATMENTS

    No, just scans every year now. Why the clinical trial GA101 now? Did you reach full remission or not?  John

    GA101 is being tested against

    GA101 is being tested against rituxan it seems to be having longer remission periods.  I am having a scan on the 6th February my last scan showed a partial response.

    Its stage 1V follicular and

    Its stage 1V follicular and it started in my lacrimal gland .
