HYALURONAN

I HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED TO GET INJECTIONS OF HYALURONAN ACID IN MY KNEES...A TOTAL OF THREE INJECTIONS FOR EACH KNEE.  i AM 60 YEARS OLD HAD MY KIDNEY REMOVED IN 2008  FROM RCC...A LAPROSCOPIC NEPHRECTOMY WITH HAND ASSIST. IT WAS GRADE 2 ABOUT 8 CM ( MAYBE MM NOT SURE OF THIS MEASURING SYSTEM) ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PLUM.  NO RADIATION OR CHEMO, OF COURSE WITH THIS CANCER WAS RECOMENDED.

MY QUESTION IS, AFTER RESEARCHING THIS HYALURONAN ACID I SEE CERTAIN DERIVATIVES OF THIS STUFF "PLAYS A ROLE IN ALL ASPECTS OF CANCER METASIS, ALLOWS CANCER CELLS TO INFILTRATE,PROMOTES CANCER CELL MOBILITY, HELPS CANCER CELLS ESCAPE FROM THE PRIMARY TUMOR" AND MANY MORE SIMILAR STATEMENTS...FOUND USING WIKIPEDIA. SO ARE THESE INJECTIONS TO MY KNEE SAFE OR ABSOLUTELY NOT OR SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN. THE INJECTIONS ARE THE LAST STEP BEFORE KNEE REPLACEMENT FOR MY BAD KNEES.

I AM NEW HERE AND APOLOGIZE FOR COMING RIGHT IN WITH A QUESTION BEFORE EVEN A PROPER INTRODUCTION OR A LOOK AROUND BUT I HAVE HAD THE FIRST OF THREE SCHEDULED INJECTIONS YESTERDAY WITH THE NEXT TWO NEXT WEEK AND THE FIRST WEEK IN FEBRUARY.  ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APRECIATED, ANY OPINIONS ARE SOUGHT AND I THANK ANYONE WHO HAS READ THIS QUICKLY TYPED PLEA FOR ASSISTANCE

WARMEST REGARDS

APPLE

    Injections

    Apple,

While we apprediate your concern this is a medical question that should be asked to the doctor doing the knee replacement or  the doctor who followed up on your surgery or a Nephrologist,

That being said , it would be unusual for a tumor to be removed and metasis set in after 6 years, Usually if there was metasis it would set in earlier, but that is not always the case.

    Good luck.

Also I assume that the Dr. doing the knee replacement took a history and lnows about your Cancer issues. If not discuss those with him.

    Ask an oncologist

I'd get the opinion of a medical oncologist with experience in RCC. Unlikely your knee guy knows much about cancer, and even less that he knows anything at all about RCC. If you can hold off and get an opinion, I sure would.

P.S. When were your last scans? I'd also want to make sure I'm NED. Could be very relevant. 6 years out is great, but RCC has no guarantee of "never to return". Stage 2 has a relatively small risk, but it's not 0. Still, don't take our word here. I'd ask this of a medical oncologist with RCC experience. It's a rare cancer and regular oncologists aren't usually up on the latest because it's a fast changing field. I wouldn't trust even a regular medical oncologist, unless they are willing to do some homework for you. Best of luck.
