Metasis TCC and Chemo theropy as first step with cisplatin and gemcitabine new drugs
My dad is 54 and is detected with TCC cancer having lump nodes in kidney and lesion in liver and neck and nodules in lungs .
Doctor suggested chemo gemcitabine plus cisplatin 1.6 gm. for 2 days and the for day 3,4,5 inj Ancount 300 Mcg. Is this the right way for such a cancer or .. its better to have the kideny removed once and for all which seems to be the primay source. Although the tumer is only 1.2 cm only in the Bladder and liver 4.2 cm and neck 2 cm ..
He suggested 3 rounds of this treatment and will see the progress This was suggested by 2 oncologist ..
Please advise.. is this the right treatment of its better to have the kidney is removed being a Primary source first then ..can do a ..chemo ??..
WE are done with one round of chemo . Are we wasting time by doing Chemo instaad a surgey of kidney a primary souse would be a better option. It will be a great help if you throw some light on this . Any metasis TCC surviver here ..
how much is is survival rate in this type of cancers.
Thanks

My Dad is come back with this chemo treatemnt and hes got no side effects of Chemo .. I am worried .. if chem is working or no .. Is there any .. way to know . ??
Parul,
I still don't understand how your dad's doctors came up with this choice of chemotherapy. These particular chemo drugs are only effective on aggressive, fast-dividing, and rapidly multiplying tumors. But most renal cancers are not aggressive unless they have turned sarcomatoid and even then it is not a given.
Did they perform a biopsy to decide what kind of histology his tumors might be classified under? That is, is it clear-cell RCC or some other version? Can you provide any further details?
A lack of side effects does not indicate anything. The best way to determine how effective a given therapy might be is by a CT scan.

Please help this caregiver
Team,
Can anyone tell me what TCC is? I have also never heard of these drugs, and I wonder if Parul is in the right forum, or if we should direct to another forum. Thanks!

Wow. My mistake. You are quite right Phoenix. I completely missed that Parul wrote that it is TCC, not RCC. TCC is Transitional Cell Carcinoma:

As such the drugs that have been prescribed for his dad make perfect sense. And so, Parul, this is the wrong forum to be asking about TCC. My profound apologies.

Parul,
I am not familiar with this type of kidney cancer. But here is a website that has some discussion about it:
http://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/kidney-cancer/f/78/t/67187.aspx
You might just do a Google search on Transitional Cell Carcinoma and see what you can find.
I don't have any time right now to do more research but you migh also investigate sites that deal with Bladder cancers.
Best wishes,

He found his way...
I went to look for a link to the Bladder Cancer forum at CSN, and Parul has already found it and posted a question this morning. There are others in the bladder cancer forum using the same combination of drugs mentioned above. Great!
