New (and best ever) C-word!
We had an appointment with my rad-onc last week--my annual visit with him. He went through a summary of my current status (ORN, trismus) and upcoming events (neck resecting in April) and then finished by saying that he considers my cancer to be cured! He is the first doctor to say that word to me, and it really hit home hard--in the best way possible! I see my other onc doc this coming week and hope to have him use that C-word, too. Even though I'm not fully 5 years past treatments, I've had enough recent clean scans (due to the ORN) for them to be confident that I am c-u-r-e-d! Of course, that comes with a (*) that I am cured of this cancer, but not immune from the development of other cancers in the future.
As all of you know, this has been one hell of a ride, with more to come with the jaw procedure next year. That reality makes this news bittersweet, but it sure beats the alternative! Even though I didn't find CSN until almost two years after treatments, it has been a huge help to get support when I needed it, and to give others support when I could do that.
