Did you opt Out ?
I had a lumpectomy for DCIS, a small amount of invasive was found on the first surgery the second 2 surgery reveal no invasive but 5 out of 16 blocks positive for dcis and the 3rd surgery no invasive and clear margins dcis 4 mm and .85 .
I really don't think radiation is nessary but my oncologist says its standard of care I'm not taking the tomoxafen either, I consulted with a holistic oncologist that put me on Myomin, DIm quercitin and rutin. I'm really confused.
I don't want a reocurrance.
Did I mention I was a very heavy Beer drinker "ESTROGEN" and now drink very modestly (glass of red wine) if at all .
anyone have any reccommendations ?

Opting out of radiation is possible
Hi Monika, not sure if you're still on this website, looks likes it's been a while since you posted. I am considering opting out of radiation now, as I have stage 1 node-negative IDC. I am concerned about the potential side effects of radiation, since my mother underwent it for the same cancer as me, and has scarring in her lungs as a result. For others reading this thread, please note that radiation does not statistically change your odds of survival, just makes it so you are less likely to get a recurrence in the original breast/tumor site. The other commenter noted cancer cells could travel through your blood stream and metastisize, but statistically, radiation does not prevent that from happening.
Anyway, I am trying to find other people who chose to not do radiation, as I believe there are holistic treatment and lifestyle change options that could replace radiation for certain patients.
Thanks,

Thanks,
MalenaYou say yourself that radiation prevents local recurrence. Why wouldn't you want to take advantage of that benefit? I am taking a drug that gives me 1% chance of helping. Why? Because it's better than 0%!
I did rads and got lung scarring too (no symptoms at all). I am still happy that I did it every 6 months when I do CT scans and they come up clear. I wanted to do everything that was recommended so I wouldn't regret anything. I use diet and exercise (lots of green tea!!) to improve my health overall. You can combine traditional and natural therapies if your doctors ok it!
Good luck, Anna
