THIS PAST FRIDAY I PASSED A BLOOD CLOT & THEN LOTS OF BLOOD, THE BLOOD KEPT coming out of the penis---went to eMERGENCY ROOM AT HOSPITAL--THE UROLOGIST ON DUTY PERFORMED A CYSTOSCOPE PROCEDURE TO CAUTERIZE A BLEEDING BLOOD VESSEL IN THE BLADDER.

I'M BACK HOME NOW BUT FEEL LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT. PASSING THIS ON AS INFO--ANY COMMENTS APPRECIATED

Rad Hopeful, you already had radiation?  I have been almost 4 years since radiaiton.  I still pass blood- exactly like you described.  Once it lasted for 8- 9 days.  I went back to U of  Michigan and was scoped just like you were.  I was told I had abrasions from radiation  inside the bladder that may be years in healing.  Last espisode was last April while out backpacking in New Mexico.  Passed a good stream of blood for two days, then it cleared up.

My bleeding has continued off

My bleeding has continued off and on for almost 4 years now.  i was told that condition could continue indefinitely which gives me other concerns.  I do understand now that radiation is tough on the body. I never understood that before radiaiton.  Those of us who have gone through radiation have been through something significantly serious with long term effects. 

 

When I was completing radiation our "graduating class" was told not to get a colonoscoply for 10 yrs.  Your tissue, the department nurse said, in  the colon will be pale  or whitish looking and if there is something that looks suspecious the doctor would want a sample of the tissue, but don't let him do it.  Why?  Because, we were told, tissue in the colon is damaged by radiaiton and the irritation to the colon wall can cause serious bowel problems for a long time.  Give it 10 yrs to heal before your next scope.

 

I don't know about you, but after radiaiton I had loose stool problems for months and when I got the urge to go I didn't have a  lot of time to find a place to unload.  That condition has now cleared up, but I have talked with men who years afterwards still have that condition.

So why even get radiaton?  Like my uro told me when my path report came in after surgery- "You will have to have radiation or die." 

 

So there is the rock and the hard place for sure.

One of my buddies was treated with SBRT last year. He had a colonoscopy approximately 6 months after.

Hi Rad,

I had IMRT treatments 4 and a half years ago.  Doc said my cancer wasn't operable.  So radiation it was!!

About a year after treatment stopped I got some very visible blood in my urine.

Scared the you know what out of me.  My wife mentioned it might be the aspirin I was taking because of blood pressure and back pain.  I stopped the aspirin and the bleeding stopped.

I had a cytoscope exam but the urologist didn't see anything.  I thought it might be irritation in the bladder due to the radiation treatments, but I wasn't sure.  The doc said he didn't see anything and was a little puzzled.  Ran every test he could think of.

I've had a colonoscopy since the radiation also.  Doc noted that there was some irritation of the bowel, but nothing he didn't anticipate given my IMRT treatment history.  I hadn't heard that one shouldn't have a colonoscopy.

Had good news on the colonoscopy.

Did get skin cancer (melanoma).  Got that cut out.

Here's hoping it was a one time thing for you!  My situation was very minor compared to yours, but I was still very worried.

THANK YOU & EVERYONE ELSE THAT RESPONDED TO MY POST. I.M SCARED & WORRIED, now I have incontinence & can barely make it to the bathroom. FEEL like I Have to move bowels but can't.
