GENETIC TESTING QUESTION

Hi, Ladies:

My daughter went for a biopsy yesterday due to mild cervical displaysia.  Her doctor asked if I had ever had genetic testing, and I had in 2006.  He said that was too old of a report, and there are new tests available.  So, I want to call my doctor to give me a written request for OVCA genetic testing.  What should I ask for?  Can't seem to find the exact terminology on the interent and I want to be sure it's correct.

I'm not sure why you have to re-do genetic testing if you already had it in 2006 and it was negative.

Alexandra, they told me that the tests are 'too old', that the newer ones are more reliable.  Silly me, I thought my results were a good thing, now I have to doubt them?  Go figure. . .

BART TESTING

Yes, Alexandra.  I had the Myriad Genetics test in 2006.  I am told that since then the BART testing is beneficial as well.  I have not looked at your links yet, but have called my gyn/onc office to explain the situation.  Initially, the PA said that my doc said I am 'not at risk'.  But then she said no problem, come on down and they will do the test.  My daughter's doctor really wants this information, and quite frankly, so do I, if in fact these newer tests are more conclusive.

I'll wait for my biopsy results first, then get this test right after, as I need to choose another Blue Cross policy - mine ends in December.

BART

BART is not that new. In 2006 Myriad started including BART in standard BRCAnalysis for patients who were found BRCA negative. http://www.myriad.com/lib/brac/BART-faq.pdf. I suppose it depends on if your test was done before or after that change.
