HAIR REGROWTH

I'm on chemo for life. Right now I have been on Taxotere for the last 19 weeks. For the first 17 weeks or so, just about all of my hair fell out. I have not shaved for a week and noticed my facial hair has really started to come back. Another week and I'll be a 70's pornstar.

My question is, has anyone else who lost hair on chemo, has noticed a comeback while still on chemo?? While I was on my last 2 Chemo's, the docs always said the harder the side effects, the better the drug is working. I'm worried if I'm growing hair again, the drug is not working??

My next scan will be 24 weeks out, and that is the same time I broke through on my last trial with tumor growth.

Hopefully I'm just being paranoid.

Best

Mike

    Yep...

I don't necessarily buy those comments by the MD's... They haven't went through what we have... If the cancer doesn't kill you, the treatemnt comes damn close... I don't care how easy it "seems" you have it... It's damn rough and we all know that.

All being different, we each handle and respond differently, some have recurrence, some don't.

Any how..., During the nine weeks (three week cycles) of Cisplatin, Taxotere and 5FU..., I lost all hair, even my toe nails around the 2nd round... But as soon as I lost it, it started growing back... Even during the additional seven weekly doses of Carboplatin to follow.

It didn't come back during that time as thick or dense as before. But as soon as I finsihed it grew back normal.. One of the few things about me that IS somewhat normal, LOL...

Of course my beard and the back of the neck took a permanant hit due to rads..., but that's not really a bad thing. I can get away with only shaving about once a week now, and not much grows below the jaw line.

Hang tough Mike, you are awesome dude...

I am also scared that tx for my recurrance may not be doing anything because I feel so good (at Lake of the Ozarks right now). After the traditional rads and the hell I went through, I feel like this can't possibly be working. I won't know anything until December. I try not to give it much thought and enjoy each day. If my tx is not successful, there will be time for dealing with that when I know it for sure. Until then, like you, I have hope! Try to enjoy today for the gift that it is.

Love it John.  I am finally out of pain, just feel numb after Cyberknife.  I have been cutting back on pain medicine also.  I will need to waith for December for followup.  I'm taking feeling better as good news.
