Fuming about ignorant words on EWTN

oh, I am so angry! I was watching tv tonight and I turned the channel to EWTN, the Catholic channel. I just happened to turn it on when the host, Johnette Benkovic, was speaking about anal cancer! She said that anal cancer was a result of unnatural conduct and that " the wages of sin is death". She said the science confirms the scripture and that anal cancer was God's way of dealing with sinful conduct and fixing the universe. OMG

Oh, I am so angry. How ignorant, mean, and just plain wrong. I got onto their website and sent a message about how wrong her message was. This is exactly the reason there is no information about anal cancer available to the public. Makes me ashamed to call myself a Catholic!

If any of you are so inclined and more eloquent than I could be when angry, you could get on the
EWTN Johnette Benkovic site and correct her hurtful ignorant words!

Your anger & frustration.  I have been unable to comment on EWTN due to my geographical location. Ignorance is not bliss. It is downright dangerous! People's lives are more at risk if they fail to access treatment because of this persons uneducated words. I wish people in her situation would research before opening their mouths. Dangerous words

The ignorance of a few peole does not reflect all the people. It is yet just as you said a contributing factor to the reason information is not getting out. Look at it more as a"challenge" from God to you to continue doing what you can to change that.

You can't judge...

...a religion by a few ignorant extremists. There are 1.3 billion Muslims, most of them are simple people  devoted to their families, work and their faith. They pray 5 times a day, fast for a month as a sign of their devotion. Yet we judge them by a few crazy terrorists. Look at the latest Miss Amirica. People call her terrorist just because her skin is dark. In Christianity there are many hypocrites that are more concerned with other people than themselves. Jesus speaks of these people. We have to stand up to these people, because even though they are less in numbers, they are very loud.

The show was "Women of Grace". Thank you for calming me down! Yes, I accept the challenge to correct this woman. She is spreadeing lies and misinformation on the tv show, which goes all over the world. The only remedy to ignorant hate speech is to correct it with information.

We must correct the misperceptions and misinformation!

I applaud you for that.

There are extremist in every religion. In Christian countries they are against women's rights, gay rights etc. In other countries something else. They are all selfish, ignorant people who act in their own benefit whether it's getting attention, money or re-election. 

By educating ourselves and sticking to the positive message of our own beliefs we have to represent an other, better alternative.

I too just read what you said and boy does that make me mad as well I'm a very grateful anal cancer survivor diagnosed in 2009 a month after Farrah Fawcett lost her battle

needless to say I was very scared all I knew was this amazing angel had just died so I felt I did'nt have much hope but I did survive and today I choose to draw more awareness

there is so much I still don't know but I do know our lord doesn't work that way, as Johnette Benkovic is saying she's just ignorant and she's not the only one, and this is why we

intend to set the record straight because she is wrong as two left shoes is.

I am pissed off by Johnette's stupidity and lack of compassion. Religious or not, no normal human being would wish cancer on another human being for any reason.

If anal cancer is "punishment" for anal sex, I wonder what Johnette's husband Anthony Benkovic was punished for, when he died of brain cancer in 2007. Her non-stop brain-f#cking?

I am not about judging people at all. This woman is spreading misinformation and hate on the air to people all over the world in the name of Catholicism. To hear a woman who looks so innocuous say that people with anal cancer are suffering due to the "wages of sin", is hurtful, wrong, and ignorant. We just have to correct these lies!

As far as the misperceptions of Muslims based on the violent terrorism of a large group of Muslims worldwide, it is up to the peaceful Muslims to speak up and condemn the actions, drive the terrorists out of the religion, and speak loudly about the true nature of their religion. Maybe fear keeps them silent and allows the extreme group to take over. When they choose to stay silent, they choose to allow the violence spread and the misperceptions to stand. Perception becomes reality.

I chose to speak up and expose the hatred and lies that are being spread in the name of my own religion!

Still...

...you don't say crap like that in public. These people design their speeches for the greatest effect, they know exactly what to say and when, they know how to manipulate the crowed toward good cause or bad. She has a lot of influence on a lot of people and that comes with a lot of responsibility.

I Wonder

I wonder if this woman would welcome some of the anal cancer survivors on her show to debate her position?  I personally do not think she is even worthy of discussion on this board.  I am an anal cancer survivor for 4 years 8 months and proud to say I am still here.  There is only one judge and that is not Johnette Benkovic.  She is truly the definition of a hypocite hidding behond her religion while condemning people.
