Hi everyone, 

Sorry I haven't posted for a while.   I have been in hospital for 12 days, home this morning, as I was neutropenic and had an MRSA (golden staph) infection which was in my blood.   All good now thankfully after IV antibiotics and wonderful care from my medical team.

Some good news too - my latest CA125 has dropped from 596 to 534 and I am very excited about that!!

Tomorrow I am back on chemo and starting Etopocide with Avastin so fingers crossed we can keep the downwards trend going.

I have had my portocath removed as that seemed to be where the infection emanated from.  In hospital they put in a PICC line which is behaving itself to date and if it works well we will probably leave it in for a while.   It's not as convenient as the portocath as I have to wrap and seal that part of my arm prior to showering but if it means no infection that suits me fine!

I will catch up on missed posts over the next couple of days and respond.

Sorry that you had to go through the dreaded infection; glad that it's over and done with and you're home and on the road to recovery and that your CA125 is moving in the right direction. Best of luck with your chemo.

Oh, Julie. So sorry to hear about that nasty MRSA. Glad to hear it's in the past. Something else to worry about. I hope it stays gone.

What good news about your CA125 number! From what my doctors have told me, an event like the MRSA infection can cause an increase in your CA125 number, so maybe now that's behind you there will be even better results. Congratulations! 

I'm doing OK too. In fact -- last week my surgeon proclaimed me N.E.D. Been waiting a LONG time to hear that.

HI, This site is fantastic!! I needed to hear the positive comments. I was diagnosed May 2013 afteer laproscopic exploratory surgery.  Began chemo, taxol/carbo/avastin end of May with excellent results after #1.  Will have #7 of 8 Friday. CT two weeks ago was verry good. Oncologist very pleased. I am glad to hear there are other drugs helping others since I am viewing this as a chronic disease. Am a 15 year survivor of stage 3 breast cancer.  Did a clinical trial then that has become std of care.  Neuropathy is not good--will try to tweek schedule with onc Friday. Thanks for all the great comments--bless all of you!!

Welcome! So glad to hear from someone with such a long survivor's record for your previous cancer. Continued good luck with your treatment for this latest challenge.

That is just wonderful news Carol.   What amazing news to receive.  Congratulations!!!  

Sorry I have been a bit slow getting back on the Board but have been a bit knocked out this week.   Finished this lot of chemo yesterday (3 days) - some nausea but mostly tiredness but that probably comes from the infection and being in hospital as well however this morning went for my first little walk in what seems like many weeks with my lovely Bella (a groodle).  It was only 20 mins but a good starting point.

Yes I hope the MRSA is gone for good!!  With the portocath out and no plans to reinstall it for a while (not wanting to risk the infection coming back) the PICC line is working well. A bit more obvious on my arm but that is nothing in the scheme of things!

Again - so thrilled for you.  Do you have a special celebration or trip planned??
