Cisplatin with Gemcitabane Chemo

Hello, I am new to the forum. Diagnosed May 24, 2013 with "suspected cholangiocarcinoma."  I have a large 7 cm tumor in the liver blocking the arteries.  I am in Stage IV. They want to place a port soon for the chemo treatment.  They suggest Cisplatin with Gemcitabane Chemo.  Has anyone had this treatment.  I've read the side effects.  Of course, all medical personnel says: Each individual is different.  I would like to hear from someone who has actually had this chemo.  I was relatively healthy but fatigued for the past year.  I became itchy and very jaundiced.  I've had three stents placed in the liver since June 1, 2013.  The first one shifted, so they went in a week later to put two stents and replace the malfunctioned one.  In August I had the two removed and replaced with another two.  I AM truly thinking about not going through Chemo.  I have been told without it, I may be around about 2-3 months.  PLEASE can anyone tell me what happened to them with the Cisplatin and Gemcitabane Chemo.  I am 62 years old and female.  Cautious about chemo if it doesn't work!

    Hello LadyLinden: My husband just completed 10 rounds of this chemo combination in August for bile duct cancer. He had no side effects, he would have chemo then go to work. He took no meds for nausea, didn't loose his hair (it did thin a bit) , ate well and was able to carry on as normal. The chemo shrank the lymph nodes and tumor to the point he was able to have the surgery they said was not an option one year ago. He just had the surgery in Sept and is doing well. Good luck I hope this helps , go for it....

    How are you doing?

    I have Cholangio.  I had Gem/Cis too.  I forget the rounds/cycles, but it was from January to August one time.  Surgery.  Reoccurrence after 1.5 months.  Gem/Cis again.  Surgery.  Reoccurrence after 8 months.  Oral Xeloda for 3-4 months.  Surgery.  Cancer free but taking oral Xeloda again for prevention for a few months.

     

    It was no problem.  No hair loss or throwing up.  Nausea was so mild that a few sips of Sprite would bring back my appetite.  I was able to shop, play, do everything.  Just for a shorter time.  Fortunately I didn't have to work, but I was sure on the computer a lot researching everything.  Hope to hear from you and hope that you did great on it and are a surgical candidate (the best/only way to cure I'm told).

     

    I'm still rocking it at 66 (almost).
