Each trial has it's own requirements but there are currently 526 registered clinical trials in the United States currently accepting new Patients.

I'm not a doctor and even if I were, this would be best answered by the prescribing physician.
Prednisone can help control inflammation influencing the time it takes to heal. They may have prescribed it for that purpose. Nut there are many other uses and being a lung cancer patient steroids are an unfortunately necessary part of most patients treatments.
