*Eff Cancer Trip*

Well today we are leaving on our Eff Cancer Trip to Mount Rushmore.  My husband is determined to go on this trip, even though his vocal cords are paralyzed, he doesn't have much energy, and coughs all the time.  But we are going, and who am i to tell him NO! if he thinks he can make this trip, then we are going.

Wish us luck!!! we are driving there from the Jersey Shore - going to be a long drive!

Fabulous, I love car/road trips, best way of travelling. enjoy every moment but most of all enjoy each other, make memories, I still look often at all my roadtrip books.

Mount Rushmore

A long car ride makes for lots of conversation.  When I retired I came to Tucson just so we could "see the west." Enjoy the trip and of course the sculpture.  See the Buffalo at the state park just south of Rushmore.  Good Luck.

We have returned from our "Eff Cancer Trip"

WE have returned from our trip out West to see Mount Rushmore.  We had a great time - 11 days and no talk about Cancer.  WE saw buffalo, prairie dogs, elk, prong horn deer and the ear of a black bear (that's all we could see through the trees) and frankly, that was close enough for me.  WE saw mount rushmore, crazy horse monument, devils tower, old faithful, custer state park, yellowstone park, black hills, tons of rock formations and waterfalls, and bubbling mud pits.  All very fascinating for a girl that grew up in Canada and has only lived here in the states for 14 years.

We both came back exhausted and relaxed at the same time.  We did alot of driving and i don't want to sit in the car for that amount of time again for a very long time!!!  LOL !

But now for some great news, my husband had chemo yesterday and a blood test on Monday and his CEA is going down, which is good cause it was steadily going up before starting this new chemo. His vocal chord is still paralyzed, and his breathing is harder and the onc hears some noises in his upper left chest that weren't there before. So, she wants to give the chemo a little bit longer to work ( he has only had 2 treatments so far) and see if that helps his breathing.  If not, she will schedule him for targeted radiation on the tumors that are causing the problem with his breathing.  Through all of this fight for the last 6 years, he has never said to me that he is scared - but the mere mention of radiation and he is terrified.  He is scared of his skin being burned.  I told him, alot of things have changed with radiation treatment, i don't think you need to be worried.  But hopefully the chemo will work and he won't have to go for radiation.

So, our *eff* cancer trip was successful and he already planning next years vacation to the grand canyon - hopefully we will be flying to this one!

Tell him not too worry too much...anything is gonna' hurt:)

I've done radiation treatments 58x on rectum, hips, liver, lungs...

And right now, I'm actually begging for more radiation as a solution to chemo.....

Tell him this from the 9-year guy:)

I'm about to fight for the 4th time too...

If it helps get him out of some pain, I'd make the trade.....but wish we didn't have to.

Glad you guys had fun on your trip....my wife and I wanted to see that part of the country and see that monument too:)

Great news

Sounds like the trip of a lifetime.  I would love to see that part of the country.  We went to the Grand Canyon for our 25th anniversary - awesome - you will love it.
