Sandostatin Question

My husband had been doing well with the short acting Sandostatin injectable for the initial two week period. He started the long acting version three days ago and the diarrhea has resumed. How long before the long acting takes effect? I have one vial of the short acting that I can give him but it is only good for five doses more.
