Back to the OR for biopsies
Last surgery for anal pre-cancer was this past January, (one of many since 2009) after healing doc put me on Aldera, worst month of my life. Looking back not sure how I funtioned, chills, body aches, headaches, burning, rash etc... Went to work everydaybut not quite sure how ? Came home useless each day and crashed until the next morning, doc said the sicker I was the more it worked, so being so horrible I figured it must have been pretty effective. Well not so much, went in for a 4 week checkup afterwards and knew there was some sort of growth back, after exam and scope doc agreed and scheduled me for a biopsy in the OR last week, pathology came back "invasive carcinoma suspected" SO I was back in yesterday for another biopsy, it is going to be a long week of waiting.... Thankful to be home today with my percocet

Hi. I am so sorry that are sill going through this. I am wondering why in the world they did not follow the protocol with radiation and chemo? I hope that you get some relief soon! Stay strong. Keeping you in my prayers! Thanks, chemo/radiation will be next if this biopsy shows invasion, if not most likely another surgery and if it comes back the same "suspected" not sure ????

I'm so sorry your previous treatment has not worked. It is true that chemo/radiation is not done until this cancer becomes invasive. It is cruel that you have had to go through mutliple surgeries and may now be looking at chemo/radiation, which I hope will be successful in ridding you of this disease once and for all. We will be here for you, no matter what, so please keep us posted. I wish you all the best and will be thinking of you.

It breaks my heart you have had to endure all this and still will have to do the treatment.
Some approaches are too surgery prone. I was told I would need surgery and thank God did not do that until I got an opinion from a major cancer hospital. But in your case, perhaps the cancer was in a grey early stage period which was not the case for me at invasive 3A stage.
The body does heal in amazing ways.
Good luck,
Sandy

Thanks for the kind words, still waiting on the pathology from a week ago Friday, getting a little wracked. The first 2 years I was at a local university hospital however in 2011 I switched over to a hospital consistently rated in the top 3 here in the states, I am hoping to hear some news soon, I have an appt on Wed but I'm hoping not to have to wait till then, lack of sleep is making me unproductive and edgy.

You are in my prayers. I am not sure why they would make you wait so long for results. Seems too long. You have been through so much! I would think they would call you. I am praying the results are good!0 -

I understand your frustration. So much rides on the results. I wish you good results, but whatever happens, we are here for you. Liz

I am somewhat at aI am somewhat at a standstill with my news, but I guess it's as good as it gets. Pathology shows that my situation is micro invasive, never heard of micro invasive but they tell me there could be a malignancy under the area being biopsied. My doctor explained to me that of all the cases they see mine is unique in the fact that the growth returns so often and so quickly, she said my case was hashed out for quite a while at their weekly meeting with other colorectal oncologists, radiologists and pathologists. All are not in agreement for treatment, some feel to go with the full blown radiation, some feel radiate a small amount to the direct area, and others say ride the wave and follow it, it will at some point become clearly invasive and then go with full blown chemo/radiation. The latter is my doctors reccomendation, however she has me seeing the radiologist again later this month, and then back to her. So I will ride the wave for now. She does not want to cut any more as my sphincter is already compromised, some pathologists felt it was insitu, others suspected invasion, so I wait....

I'm no doctor, so this opinion is coming from a lay person. However, I tend to agree with your doctor's decision to watch and wait. That is usually the protocol for carcinoma in situ of the anal area. If it were me, I would not go through any more surgeries either because of the damage to the sphincter. I think your doctor is approaching this appropriately. However, I know the watching and waiting can be a time of high anxiety and uncertainty. Please keep us posted and I wish you all the best.
