Hi Karen, how are things going for you and what is your Dx? Mine is Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.
I have IDC..stage IIa. I have my 5th of 6 chemo treatments this week. Chemo has been fairly tolerable. Next hurdle surgery, which I dread. Keep me posted on how things go for you!!

Shary, wishing you good luckGavinsgrandma said:Expanders
Hi Dolores,That's exactly what my PS said, about a year from surgery through expanders, implants and then any tattooing that may be done. I don't know about any treatment yet, I go see my surgeon tomorrow, he is about 3 hours away from where we live, he is going to do my H&P. Maybe he will have more news for me but I got the impression that I won't know about chemo until the nodes are checked during surgery. All of my Pre-op work up is done so I will spend the next few weeks getting ready around the house and garden, I finally got some jalapeño peppers, Anaheim peppers and bell peppers in yesterday and last night while we were at a friends for the evening my daughters one year old shepherd mix pup pulled them all out
Shary, wishing you good luck with the surgery and a fast recovery!
Hugs, Diane

I start the red devil onGavinsgrandma said:Peppers and Draino
That is interesting ththey hey did the sentinel node removal prior to surgery, I bet that gave you some peace before surgery:-) I was just reading about Red Devil on the Inspire site, sounds like they should call it Draino. when do you start? I want to tell you a little something about my last 3/4 weeks, on wednesday the 30th I got a call from radiology that there was something suspicious on my mammo and he wanted more pictures and an ultrasound, during the U/S he said he did not like the looks of it so he had me returned the next day for my Bx, that was also my Grandsons 1st birthday. Friday the 31st he called me with the Dx and advised me to see my PCP for a referral to a surgeon, which I did. Saturday we had some family in town and we were out for the day, when we got home we found our Mini-mini doxie and our Shi-tzu had been badly bitten. We have an old mellow shepherd, my daughters shepherd mix, also a sweet girl and an almost 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier( a rescue) who was my baby, unfortunately he had been getting more aggressive and protective. We had to call the vet and take the girls in for emergency treatment. Sunday we had to make the choice to have the JRT( Rowen) put down, I have been extremely emotional over everything to many bad things to fast. My garden has always been my solice and Rowen was always by my side, so when I put my peppers in I was trying to make my yard feel happy again, so when Ava pulled them out I thought"ok" replant so I went to the nursery and got some Herbs, peppers and some flowers planted them this afternoon :-) The little girls are healing and getting better, sometimes I just don't understand how so much pain can come so quickly, I am trying to move on so I can focus on getting myself better, i feel so bad about the girls and I miss Rowen terribly, sorry for rambling but it helps me to move forward. So we will see if my new flowers, herbs and peppers survive and I will keep you posted after my H&P tomorrow.

Oh no!, sorry about your peppers
I had a sentinal node removed a week before surgery and found out when I went for my surgery that the node was neg. Yay! Because my tumor was larger than a 2 cm ( it was 2.2) I have to do chemo. I had 4 tumors all totaling more than 5cm in the same breast. I have to have 4 red devil, adrimycin and cytoxin, then 12 weekly taxol treatments. I dread it. I sure hope you don't have to have any.
Let me know what the dr says tomorrow and keep me posted.

Sending prayers and good thoughts to you on your upcoming surgery. If you get the pink bus, I will be riding along with you. I went thru a right mastectomy last August with reconstruction so if you need someone to hold you hand on the bus, I will be happy too.

take pain medication as prescribed
Multiple pillows in various, sizes help ..with sleeping on your back
-- Reclinder is another option for resting, or sleeping
Frozen pea's bags on hand -- helps with the swelling
Please have cups, saucers, plates at arm level - as well as re-arranging your
fridge for more commonly used items at arm levels. Tide/Downy small container
sizes - also at arm level. Reaching up and grabbing heavy items -- will tear
your stitches, as well as hurt your arms. Muscles and tissue in breast, as well
as arm areas will be cut, moved and sewn back together.
I tried to take a bath ..but hence could not pull myself out of the our spa tub,
no muscles or strength in my arms after bilateral mastectomy.. It took my
husband, and daughter some time to pull me out of the tub == without hurting me.
Not a pretty time, or sight to say the least. So I opted to shower ...My husband
removed our shower head, and replaced it with a flex hose type so I could shower
maneuvering the flex hose from waist down, as well as place shower water under
my arms.
Lastly, please make sure you do your exercises as prescribed by Plastic Surgeon,
and Physical Therapist.
Strength, Courage, Hope and Speedy recovery.
