Vit C by IV infusion or Myers Cocktail IV Infusion as post-radiation fatigue & nutritional boost
Anyone try mega doses of VIT C by IV infusion or a Myers Cocktail by IV Infusion for post-radiation fatigue, GI cell regeneration support? Any postiive results? Entertaining the thought of spending $1000 for a series of 5 Myers Cocktails (hefty out of pockeet cost)......VIT C IV infusion has been successfully used for surgical healing by progressive physicians, Integrative Medicine, even Dr. Weil. But what of this Myers Cocktail?
http://www.doctoroz.com/media/print/16413
The theory is that post-radiation, the GI cells are so denuded and damanged that we cannot absorb a whole lot of nutrients, and Vit C, at least, will help with the regeneration process. What's the consensus out there on the Board?

Also hard to find "reputable" MD who would agree, except for Dr. Weil for Vit. C....http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/id/QAA400119

Dr. Weil generally knows what he is talkng about. However, he generally has more of a regement to follow than I have local resources, etc. Here are the supplements I have been taking to support my system: resveratrol concentrate 125mg/wine grape & japanese knotweed - 2 daily; multi-vitamin; evening primrose oil 1000mg cold pressed 1 daily; cranberry concentrate 500mg 1 daily; and okra pepsin 1 to 2 daily. Hope you find some of these helpfull. I am certain they have aidded in my GI track and my digestive system recovery. Wishing you a steady and quick recovery.

Thanks for sharing your supplements. Why Cranberry for GI? Usually for UTIs? okra pepsin? where do you get the okra pepsin? I also have resveratrol and primrose, and do have cranberry but stopped taking it. I also take Vit D, Vit K2, probiotics, L-Glutamine for GI rebuilding, Milk THistle, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ10, Vit B Complex 100, Mg, Zn, Fe occasionally as I donot eat red meat, Kelp for Iodine as I donot eat salt, and crystallized Ginger - for my sweet tooth.....but mega dose Vitamin C infusion is an attractive experiment to try and deal with radiation fatigue. Interesting that nobody else has responded to this post. Usually there are so many.....Have you seen "Living Proof" documentary on VIt C http://www.disclose.tv/action/viewvideo/52580/60_min_NZ_Living_Proof__Man_Cured_by_Vitamin_C/

Vitamins and Supplements
Hi NYinTX
Per your questions:
I get the Okra Pepsin e3 from Standard Process. My Rosen Therapist (she is an RN as well) suggested it to me for intestinal support.
I take the cranberry supplement for swelling and skin issues I continue to 'fight'. Plus, I understand that it offers anti-tumor support.
Additionally, I take probiotics 1 -2 capsules just before bed and 1/2 - 1 teaspoons of psyllium fiber 2x a day.
My Dad mentioned to me that his doctor gave him viatimin shots to combat fatigue after his open heart surgery. He found them to be very effective.
Do you have any 'bottom' skin issues? And if so, what are you doing to heal and ease the discomfort and pain?

It takes patience
How far out are you from your last tx? I was very impatient with my recovery and stll am.
We all need to do what we need to do. I absolutely believe our digestive systems are compromised. But rest is crucial. You will need a lot of rest if you are still in early (first year + recovery).
I am a big fan of Green Vibrance smoothies and psyllium husks. I love fresh squeezed juices and take a calicium supplement for the osteoporosis I have recently been diagnosed with that contains boron and vitamin K2 as well as D. Green Vibrance gave me a noticeable real bounce. To make a terrific smoothie I use it with a half bananna and frozen organic fruit like cranberries, blueberries, mango or strawberries. I believe simple diets are the best diets now and try to only feast on special occasions.
All the best and thanks for coming to the board.
Sandy

good to know it worked for your dad, so I shall go for it
my last radiation tx was 3/18/13, I stayed at MDAnderson until 4/5 with terrible skin issues which were treated first with a lot of pain meds, silvadene, sleep and more sleep.....it took 3 weeks for me to be able to sit long enough to drive 200 miles home stopping only once on the way.....now its 3 months post radiation and I had my first anoscopy with all clear. The MDAnderson GI surgeon Skibber was actually amazed at how clean everyting looked, or so he said. I live on kefir and probiotics, and ordered Glutatione and Vit C from Amazon - Lypo SphericTM GSH ($69.95/ 1 month); Sold by NG, Inc. Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C, Box of 30 packets ($29.95/ 1 month)...supposed to be as good as IV and a whooooole lot cheaper. I haven't received the vitamins yet so shall let you know how I feel after taking them
thanks so much for responding

It 3 months post last radiation. I hate smoothies....except kefir....but keep buying whey protein powders which I never wind up making....I take Vit D, K2, Selenium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Kelp for Iodine, Vit B100, cayenne, biotin, and a bunch more....but not every day as I also can't stand looking at all those pills; they have not helped with fatigue; I sit on my duff at computer for 18/24 hours, force myself to get up and go dig in the garden for exercise as seeing stuff grow is therapeutic, especially as a result of my own efforts; Iam 40 lobs overwt now and look pregnant, no abd strength, no willpower to do gym routine, really sore leg and butt muscles, moving as if I am 100 years old, and just broke my 5th metatarsal on rt foot....only stubbed my ponky toe and it broke?? I haven't gone to MD yet as donot want xray but pain has gotten so bad and >> swelling, that will need to go and confirm.. maybe cast will help. I have >>osteoporosis from before radiation, did not take any meds as caused myalgia, and have not started back on my Calcium 2000mg/day with Strontium at night routine.....maybe I'm sabotaging my own recovery. trying for an alkaline vegan diet but cannot give up cheese, yoghurt, cottage cheese, or eggs. Can live without meat or fish no problem. But gotta have that Merlot and cheese ) also eating a lot of raw almonds, cashews, soy nuts, sunflower seeds, Salmond Oil, Primrose Oil....and now Hydrocodone for the toe, feeling soooo much better after hydrocodone )

You are still in early recovery. I complained mightily throughout my first year with fatigue and pain. I found meditation and Tai Chi helped a lot. Going to the gym was out of the question but not walking the dogs which I did daily, except when I was in the worst times of treatment.
Tai Chi videos are available on Amazon and many of them are very good - all of them are better than not doing strength and balance exercise at all. The best part is the imagery and breathing for healing.
I did forty minutes of Tai Chi and 20 minutes of Pilates this morning since I can't drive to the gym because of my ear problems and unsteadiness. I was so greatful at how for at least that time, I felt empowered.
Good luck,
Sandy

You are quite right Sandy, 3 months post Tx is not long. And I have so much more energy than 2 months ago.....so yes, patience. I am not a big fan of TaiChi but love Pilates and Yoga, although balance is also a problem now with 2 broken toes (( and I have no motivation at all. But i do get out there and dig 2 ft holes through caliche rocks to plant stuff in the back yard. Thanks for the sunny disposition.

I practiced Bach today with asthma and one ear so I know what you mean. We can seem to do what we love and doing what we love brings us health, peace and satisfaction. I wish I loved gardening!
Sincerely,
Sandy
